Hi,
I have a dedicated pc that I use with digital watchdog software to manage my ip cameras.
Would it be ok to install my 3cx system on the same system, or I should rather use a hyper-v instance.

3CX will tell you not to install other software on a 3CX server. Consider installing the Debian version under Hyper-V. 3CX will handle the OS upgrades (and updates if automatic updates are enabled) and as a VM it will be portable.

Thank you.
Whats the benefit of Debian vs windows on hyper v.

Debian uses way less resources, and you don't have to worry about OS licensing, either for Windows Server (which can be free but has limitations*) or Windows 10/11 Pro (which has licensing fees if run in a VM, and limit to the number of connected devices). I know 3CX started on Windows years ago but we've only ever installed Debian.

*Windows Server Standard allows using the host's key for 2 Windows VMs if the host does not provide any services, otherwise the host plus one Windows Server VM. Otherwise additional licensing is needed.
