Hi,

We have a new prospect with 300 users, and they have been experiencing issues with using a 3CX v18 Windows Desktop Client on AWS WorkSpace.

When they try to install the Windows Client for a non-administrator user, the client installs upon providing the admin credentials, but it fails to register. Basically what happens is, when they click on the Provision button on the Web Client to provision the extension, nothing happens at all and the extension never gets provisioned. The Windows Client also disappears from the user profile after the reboot/sign-off.

The described problem doesn’t occur however on the administrator account, but for the sake of security my client can’t allow for standard users to have the admin rights.

I have discovered that when you run Google Chrome as administrator and provide the admin credentials, 3CX will provision upon clicking on the provision button, however the software will still disappear from the user profile after the reboot or sign-off. The client also never appears on the installed program list in the control panel for any non-admin users.

I have found a post on the 3CX forum, which similarly describes what we have been experiencing, but it seems that no one has ever found a solution to this problem.

We would really appreciate if someone could help us find a solution to this problem, as this is the only obstacle which holds our opportunity.

Hi!

My guess is that the non-admin users AppData folder gets cleared after each reboot and that's why it disappears.
This is the default installation path of the client.

If you however deploy it via Terminal Server as explained here, the Desktop App will be installed in ProgramFiles.

If you don't want to deploy via Terminal Server, another forum user reports they have found a way to silently install the app in ProgramFiles, but I cannot verify if this works or not. The post explaining hos this is done is here:

Hi Nick,

Thank you so much for your reply. I have tried to silently install the app in Program Files and it did the trick! The 3CX app is now installed in Program Files of the regular user, and it doesn't uninstall after the reboot.

I have now the desktop app working properly for all non-admin users in AWS, therefore my problem has been resolved.

Thanks a lot!

Glad we could help!

Thanks to @Yossiz for providing the solution in the linked thread!
