Dear 3CX-Community,

I want to make a custom Grafana dashboard. I want the dashboard to show information about three callqueues. Information like incoming calls, how many calls have been answered/abandoned, etc. I already found out that accessing the postgresql database is spoiling your warranty. The other option was to make a script that analyses the CDRs created by 3CX. But while I was researching, I found the 3CX wallboard. Since the wallboard has all information I need, there should be a way to access it's datasource. But where is this datasource? Where does the wallboard get its information from? Can I somehow get the information and send it into a DB like Influx or SQL?

I am looking forward to helpful answers

Timo

The information presented in the 3CX Wallboard is still retrieved from the 3CX database so I'm afraid there's really no way of doing this without voiding 3CX Support, unless of course you do end up using the CDR info instead.

Is there a better way to get that information? And is there a way that I could obtain the documentation for the API?

The CDR files do not provide the necessary information for obtaining queue statistics. And as noted above, you cannot access the data used by the 3CX wallboard. The only real-time option is to subscribe to the 3CX events directly using the 3CX Call Control API. Unfortunately, 3CX has withdrawn the documentation for the API. My assumption is this is in preparation for the newly announced REST API and Gateway service proposed for 3CX V18. While 3CX has not provided ANY details about what will be possible with these new tools, hopefully this will be the "supported" approach for getting real-time data in the future. There is no release date yet, but my best guess is maybe December of this year (2021) but that's just a guess based on rumor and past experience.

We have been building custom wallboards for 3CX for over 10 years (using the 3CX Call Control API) and I can tell you they are not easy to build. Even after all this time we are still finding small edge cases that need to be handled. For example, last week we found a new event we have never seen before which was generated by an inbound call that was later forwarded to an external number. This scenario made a mess of one of our wallboards and we had to scramble to get it fixed quickly.

The complexity of building wallboards does vary significantly based on your environment and requirements, and that is further complicated by the lack of documentation available for he API. Nevertheless, this is something we do every day (we received 8 new projects just last week). We can help you if needed.
