I have 2 locations, but I have 1 DID number on my SIP Trunk, We really do not have a scheme for our extensions. We are our main office, and another location that is just by appointment only, and I do have a SIP phone at my other location. I have the E-911 setup for our main office, and tested it with the PSAP with their permission and was successful. But how to I set up the E-911 info from my other location, for just in case it ever needs to be used that if 911 is called from that particular extension that its routed correctly through my SIP to the correct PSAP. Now my other alternate location is in a different county and a different PSAP. I know part will need to be set up with the SIP Trunk Provider, but I'm sure there has to be a setting in the portal, I just can't figure it out where.

You will need a second DID and assign that DID to the phone at the remote office (3CX Management Console --> Extensions--> <Remote Extension>--> General Tab--> Outbound Caller ID). Then, in your SIP trunk, configure this DID e911 for the remote office.

Is this the only way??? I really do not need a second number. Plus is I do get a second DID I don’t want the caller ID to have that second phone number appear as I want our main number. This second location is is not staffed full time and I don’t want people to dial that number. Or if we call a client and they don’t recognize that nunber.

@Heath - that's a way to do it - but the caller ID is an issue, like it is for our clients.. How we do it is: get a 2nd trunk from your provider (most provide them at no cost) - you will need a 2nd DID as well. Then build an outbound rule for the extensions at the remote office and if they dial 911 - send it out the 2nd trunk (which is registered with E911 for the 2nd location address). The 2nd trunk and 2nd DID aren't used for anything else - the main trunk is used for everything. Even if you just get a pay as you go trunk.

I wish there was a way to do dynamic caller ID rewrite based upon the outbound rule. I know the voiptools guys have a web based way to over-ride the caller ID per call (which is really cool) - but obviously that doesn't work in an emergency when you need to dial 911 quickly.

One thing we have run into - folks that work from home (various offices, etc) - you can't support 911 for all of them (you could - but could you picture the number of trunks needed?). So we have a number of things in place to handle these scenarios. This is also an issue for folks who work from the road (field inspectors, installers, sales, etc) - they can't dial 911 from the PBX. So for those folks - it's a training issue we have to handle and deal with.

I spoke to my SIP trunk provider they don’t provide a 2nd trunk at no cost. I would have to establish a new acct. Currently my outbound caller id for all of our extentions is in the SIP trunk tab of the portal. Is there a way that if 911 or any particular number dialed that a different caller id nunber is transmitted thus the 2nd DID. All other calls dialed is our main nunber or that that currently appears in the SIP tab of the portal

No - that's been in the "wish list" for 3CX for a while - dynamic, rule based outbound caller ID. Go here and upvote it: @@ edit 2018-04-24 - fixed link to correct idea @@

I am not a flowroute customer - but one of our IT partners is - IIRC a basic trunk with per-minute billing, 1 DID and e911 is under $5 per month. I am sure there are others - I remember seeing something on Twillio that was similar.

IIRC??? Couldn’t find it

Ok. I thought that was another SIP. But I actually have flowroute. And yes they are cheap. Just really didn’t want to establish a 2nd account.

Heath - I use Flowroute and set up the same trunk twice.
One as Registration and one as IP Secured.
One of these can be used as the 911 for the second location... and program the Outbound caller ID to come from the Trunk instead of the Extension.

Craigreilly - How is your second flowroute trunk set up? I have a registered trunk working fine, but when I try to use one set up for IP-based authentication for 911, I get an authentication error when calling out. I have my IP entered into Flowroute.

It seems like a lot of work to have to go though to make up for 3CX lacking basic 911 functionality.
