I have 2 inbound DID 111-111-1111 and 222-222-2222

When someone calls the first DID I want to see the caller id that appears on my phone have a string prefix like N1

For example, if 555-555-5555 calls 111-111-1111, I want to see "N1 555-555-5555" appear on my phone as who is calling.

And likewise if someone calls 222-222-2222, I want to see N2 as the prefix.

This allows me to quickly see which inbound DID of mine the person called.

Is this possible with 3cx?

Thanks!

Hello @HelloPBX

Yes this is possible. You will need to create 2 inbound rules and name them N1 and N2.
Then navigate to Advanced / Contacts / Options and enable the option "Prepend Name" under the "Add Group, Queue or DID/DDI Names to Caller ID" menu.

Thanks I tried that but it doesn't seem to work.

I'm using the chrome desktop web app and zoiper to view the inbound call.

It's showing the name of the ring group but not the name of the inbound rule.

Is the name of the Ring Group too long and perhaps does not fit in the screen? Also when you call the 2 numbers do each go to its own destination or do they both go to the same destination?
I have a feeling that both calls will end up to the same destination and the inbound rules are not followed because your DIDs do not match the number format that the provider is using.
To test, send each number to a different destination using the inbound rules and see if the calls end up to their destinations.

The call flow I currently have is Inbound Rule -> Digital Receptionist -> Call Group -> User Extension For "Shared" Voicemail

When the call rings on my phone I see the name of the Call Group ... but I would like to see the name of the Inbound Rule. Because I have multiple inbound numbers and I want to know specifically which number is called. But I don't want to setup multiple Call Groups because most would be duplicates.

For example

Number 1 -> Call Group 1
Number 2 -> Call Group 1
Number 3 -> Call Group 2
Number 4 -> Call Group 2

So I want to be able to see if Number 1, 2, 3, 4 is being called not if Call Group 1 or 2 is being called.

Is this possible?

I only have one DID to test right now but I'm able to switch it to the different Digital Receptionist and hear my different greeting messages.

Direct the inbound rule of your DID to your extension directly and call the number. Do you see the inbound rule name that way? If not then you are not matching the Inbound rule and the call is routed through the main trunk number catch all functionality.

Thanks for your help, that was it! I went into my sip provider settings and changed the inbound number format to +E.164 and I'm seeing the name of the inbound rule being added to the call.

But now it's adding both the Inbound Rule name and the Ring Group name. So I'm seeing this for inbound calls:

3cx:Ring Group 1:Number 1

Ideally I would only see Number 1 added.

Do you know if this is possible?

You can leave your Inbound rule name empty and it won't show up.

That would put me back to the problem I was having before where it's showing the Ring Group name but I don't want that name to show. I only want the inbound rule name to show. So theoretically I could delete the Ring Group name (and have to remember in my head what the ring groups are for) but deleting the Ring Group name isn't allowed. When I try I get the error "Value must be configured"

So why not rename your Ring Group to your Inbound rule name and not populate the inbound rule? Wouldn't that accomplish the desired result?

No because as you see below I want to know which number is being called, not the ring group the number is sent to.

Since you have one ring group per DID then your DID number can be the name of the ring group which will be unique. So when the call reaches the ring group the user will see the ring group name which is the called number and the callers number.
Number1:CallerNumber

I don't have one ring group per DID. I have 4 DIDs and 2 Ring Groups.

I can do 4 DIDs and 4 Ring Groups but it's a lot of duplicate configurations that I will have to remember to change in multiple places when I make edits in the future.

When you prepend or append the information there is no option to chose which to display or to omit. So you will either need to create the additional ring groups or make the ring groups names really short so they are not in the way. Not a perfect solution but it can be done.

You can also name the RG with very short names so that the Inbound rule name shows but the RG name becomes insignificant.
