Paging extension to extension (intercom) on this system was set up with *11. It quit working after firmware upgrade. I had another system that was set up with *9 that I had to change to *8 after firmware upgrade to fix paging. I tried that on this system. here's what I found.

1) on the router IP phone i set up on admin user remotely, i am able to dial *8+extension and page (intercom) users.
2) if users try to dial *8+extension, it just rings

i know i on version 18 there was a checkbox under RIGHTS that had to be checked to Intercom. Is there something like that on Ver 20? Perhaps a ROLE setting?

rbergthold,
Sorry to hijack you message. Maybe you can clear something up for me. I have V18 and have been looking at the V20 User Access Roles. I notice that a User can not 'Intercom'. I may not understand what Intercom is. Here when we dial an extension number and press call, we call that intercoming the person we want to talk to. The called extension's phone rings until either the person answers, the call times out (end call, we don't have VM) or the caller hangs up.

What is the difference between dialing the extension vs Intercoming the extension?
In V20, can a User still dial another User?

Thank you

Yes a user can still call a user. The intercom feature they are discussing above is where the person that dials (with the paging dial code in front of extension number) the receiving end phone answers automatically in speakerphone mode.

For this you have to have the proper user permission to do it as you can imagine it shouldn't be a default for users to be able to call any extension and have it auto answer in speaker phone mode.

Intercom is analogous to page. However Page can be to a paging group or an overhead paging system. Intercom is directly to a user. So, if your dial code for paging is set up to *9, you can page a user through their phone by pressing *9+extension number. So, if Sally x100 is set up to be able to intercom, you would press *9100 to page her (as long as you are also able to intercom)

I understand better that to 'Intercom' an extension requires dialing a code before the extension such as *9 + 100. Instead of the called extension ringing and waiting for the person to pickup, the called extension alerts the called person (beeps once), the called phone automatically enters speaker phone mode and the called user can talk without picking up the handset.

Thank you for helping me understand.
