Any models that DON'T require flashing with 3CXs firmware prior to configuring as router phone ?

Hi,

Are there any models supported out of the box as router phones ? Particularly for larger deployments it's frustrating having to firmware upgrade every single handset before they can be provisioned to be router phones.

We use Yealink phones, and that seems to work just fine.
What Brand have you been using?

T4U Series, predominately T42U/T43U and T46U all require firmware upgrades prior to router phone configuration, they are shipped with the manufacturers stock firmware.

It depends on how old they are/how long they have been in a warehouse. I don’t remember the required firmware number offhand but if the device is old enough it doesn’t try to connect properly and thus blacklists its own IP.

Can you connect one, use it to connect others as normal phones, flash them, then delete and re add?

Thanks Steve unfortunately I would need to first tie them to an extension before upgrading the firmware on them so this would add time on unnecessarily.. currently I plug them into a switch configured on a VLAN for TFTP, the phones pull the firmware via TFTP and install but this annoyingly hardcodes the TFTP server IP as the provisioning server so it doesn't let me provision them against an extension so I then need to re-patch the phone into another port on the switch which receives the correct 3CX provisioning URL via DHCP option so it can then provision, it's a bit messy but it works and is quicker than logging into each handset to manually upgrade the firmware.

We have our supplier apply the latest 3cx firmware to the yealink phones prior to shipping. They charge about $2.5 per phone. Well worth it and we just add that into our shipping cost to the customer.
