An hour before a staff meeting, I get hit with some odd phone system issues...
  • A use says that she has more than one put a call on hold to call another extension, only to have the call on hold transfer to that extension when she hangs up.
. Hols and Assisted transfer are right next to each other, in the softphone, but she insists she isn't pressing the incorrect button.
  • Another user calls an extension from his extension. The person picks up the phone, and the call disconnects. The calling person almost always uses the speaker, but I'm not sure about the other user.
  • System memory on the Linux distro is slowly creeping up. Not much, but has gone up several percentage points in the last few weeks.
Anyway, I am soon off to a staff meeting to indicate that I am researching. Appreciate any insights I can get!

She is definitely pressing the wrong button to resume her call or something like that. When you have a call on hold and you're on a 2nd call, you can press Transfer and those two will connect automatically. That is the most probable cause of this. Might not be the Hold button but the Unhold ;)

Trigger the issue then check the activity log. If nothing, set Log Mode to Verbose then retry. There must be a reason why the call gets disconnected.

  1. Firewall test passes?
  2. Phone is on supported firmware with supported template?
  3. Network configured correctly?
  4. Is one of them a remote extension?

System memory on the Linux distro is slowly creeping up. Not much, but has gone up several percentage points in the last few weeks.
  1. Do you have anything else installed on the server?
  2. When was the last reboot?
  3. Are you using transcoding of codecs?
  4. Is there transcription enabled? For big recordings and big voicemail it can use more memory.

Frederick, thank you for the quick response! I am definitely doing reboot, after hours, tonight. This is a plain Linux distro onto a dedicated computer. It has been running since February 2018. I started out with Windows, but jumped to the Linux distro on 15.5.

After checking with the users in question, I found that they are all having issues using the Yealink T48G, currently on v35.83.0.60. As expected, I could not get a recurrence of the issue in my presence.
. I will wait a little while and go back over the basics with them. I am suspecting that they are somehow using the transfer button when using the second line.

Off to the meeting...
