Hi,

one of the phone is having issues . example 100. We have a spare phone that is on 101. how do i swap out the bad phone ext: 100 and replace it with the good phone ext: 101.
How do I change the ext of 101 to 100? does this make sense? best practice of doing this?

thank you

All roads lead to Rome.

one standard procedure to change a regular 3CX supported local IP phone on a local 3CX may be:
  1. disconnect both phones from network
  2. remove both phones in the 3CX
  3. factory reset both phones
  4. bring the phone 100 for recycling or electronic disposal
  5. connect phone 101 to the network
  6. set up phone 101 in the 3CX as phone 100
  7. restart phone 101, it should start as phone 100
How do I change the ext of 101 to 100? does this make sense?
I don't know if it makes sense for you. If I had to change phones, swapping the extensions would be the worse choice for me.

best practice of doing this?
there is no best practice, it depends on the situation and existing settings: no external user sync or ms sync or ldap, blf on other phones, transfer chat messages and so on - a long list - no standard answer how to do this

thank you for this.. that is what I'm doing. I think maybe there is some easier way of doing this. Like in Shoretel. just swapping the mac ID and everything sync up. Just one step. 3cx of changing a phone take a couple of step. Kinda like setting up a new phone.. Thank you for this though..

@Song You can use the hotdesking feature to add multiple extensions to the same phone, allowing you to switch between them using 3CX dial codes. For more information, visit: https://www.3cx.com/docs/hot-desking/.
