We started to build 3CX on earlier version 17, at that time we set up caller ID easily on each trunk.
After that, we upgraded to V20 hosted version finally.
Now we added a new trunk on V20 hosted and tried to set up caller ID for the new trunk, but couldn't find where to do it.
Please advise how can I set up caller ID for a new trunk on V20.

Version v17 is undoubtedly a very unique version of its kind, unlike any I have ever known. :p ( Version 17 does not exist )

Click on the “Admin” button at the bottom left, go to the Voice & Chat tab, click on your trunk, select the “Options” tab, and open the Caller ID Control section.

Make changes according to the instructions from your SIP TRUNK provider.

Note: If you are not using a 3CX-certified provider, there is no point in asking for help here; your Trunk provider should support you. Otherwise, consider switching to a supported provider.

Set it up through your outbound routes. That is how we do it

Or do it Guillaume way. Which is probably better. :)

Indeed, you are correct; your instructions complement mine.

information retrieved from this page;
https://www.3cx.com/docs/sip-trunk-outbound-calls/

If you set it to “OriginatorCallerID” ;
  1. 3CX will first check if the "Outbound Caller ID" in the Outbound Rules is populated and will use that value as the Caller ID.
  2. If the "Outbound Caller ID" under the Outbound Rules is empty, 3CX will check if the “CallerNum” in the Inbound Parameter is populated (e.g., forwarded to another outside/external number through a SIP Trunk provider).
  3. If the “CallerNum” Inbound Parameter is empty (not a forwarded call), the PBX will check for an Outbound Caller ID in four different locations with descending priority.
    1. The highest priority is the "Outbound Caller ID" field that can be set in the Outbound Rules.
    2. If that is empty, then the Outbound Caller ID is taken from the Extension settings.
    3. If this field is empty, then 3CX will check the SIP Trunk settings → “Options” tab → “Caller ID Control” → “Default Outbound Caller ID” field.
    4. If this field is also empty, 3CX will use the Main Trunk Number configured in the “General” tab of the SIP Trunk settings.

This assumes that you are either consistently using the same CNAM (Caller ID Name) or not using a CNAM at all.

Thanks Guillaume and Curtis for your insights!
My 3CX was set up long time ago when the version was older than V18, so I thought it was V17 which is proved not existed, haha..
This time I was adding a new trunk to 3CX V20 hosted by copying all the settings from the old trunks, I found the default Outbound Caller ID was set in trunk->Option->Caller ID Control with a phone number. The number shows as a caller ID really on the new trunk when calling from 3CX to my cellphone. But if I am calling from old trunk to my cellphone, the caller ID is my company name instead of a phone number. I like the company name caller ID but can't find where to set it up.
Appreciate if you can provide more hints on it!

What is the name of your SIP provider? Is it supported by 3CX?

Caller ID name is set by the SIP provider. Call them, or log into your account and change Outbound CNAM to your company name

This isn't true for all providers. :p

Most SIP providers (at least in North America) allow the PBX to provide the CNAM (Caller ID Name).

This can be done through one of the following fields:

From: Display Name
Remote Party ID - Calling Party: Display Name
P-Asserted Identity: Display Name

However, it's becoming increasingly rare to find a provider that supports Clip No Screening, a feature that allows displaying a number that isn't active in their SIP account.

We do ours via our provider in Michigan

Thank all of you for precious ideas!
You are right that only phone number can be set up as caller ID whenever it is on 3CX and my SIP provider (VOIP.ms).
Why I saw my company name showing up as caller ID on my phone is because I added it to my phone's address book.
It is a wonderland here with so many enthusiastic experts!

Voip.MS offers a Premium route to ensure the proper functioning of the caller ID.

[…] It is also important to note, that features like DTMF, DISA, Callback and Caller ID can only be guaranteed while using Premium route. […]

Hi

Admitedly a bit lost about the "per user caller ID" feature in v20.

I currently have one extension which has an "Outbound Caller ID" listed and working as expected. However I don't seem to be able to modify it (I gues it has been set during migration from v18), exepct for removing it (thus reveting to the trunk caller ID).

I uderstand the whole caller ID setup is now much more fine grained and detailed v20 but what is my best approach to be able to change an existing called ID ?

Just click the box beneath Outbound Caller ID and your cursor should be at the beginning of the existing number, begin typing (or paste) and it will overwrite it. Once you've typed all the digits, click the Custom Caller ID: box that will appear just below. Press Save.
