CFD future Department Status

Will the CFD get an update to include Get/Set Department Status in the near future so that projects can interrogate the department hours status please?

Yes, this is coming in Update 1. You can assign a department to a CFD app, and then the Date & Time Conditional component will follow the office hours of that department.
