Hello,

I've just realized that the Web experience has been dramatically changed in v18, removing the pop-out web extension which was heavily used in our environment. Especially these days as work from home continues to be a norm in our region, removing this option, especially for users of Mac OS who cannot install a desktop client, is rather unfortunate.

I'm hoping that this move can be reconsidered, as a the former web extension in Chrome was really great, and the new option is really a big step backward.

Thanks,

S

Agreed, the fallout from clients over the Extension being removed has been huge for our client base... We have many Mac users who can't use the new Windows App, large clients that have to verify the Windows App which can take months before rolling it out, the WebCleint Extension got around all this...

PLEASE bring it back ASAP!

Hey Tony, they did now!

See here: https://www.3cx.com/blog/releases/v16-update8a-beta/

You have both for v16 and v18 the extension, and v18 has the Click2Call one as well. A Mac desktop app is also being fast tracked (alpha expected within couple weeks.)

Hey Frederick,

I think this only works if you can get the V16 Beta release installed, currently, it's not available on any of the customer sites who need to remain in V16 a little longer. Do you know if there's a way to go find it? the update link is not discovering it, only the V18 upgrade is available

It should show up as a beta release.

It should indeed, but isn't currently... Only V18 update is available on my systems

Maybe it hasn't propagated everywhere yet, they released it in the middle of the day.

I figured it may be something along those lines, I raised a support ticket just in case, have way too many clients screaming at us about getting the extension back! The Change management conversations nightmare I've had today has been 'Fun'.....

the link provided has this paragraph,
So, rather then reinstalling the old extension on desktops, we recommend, any of following options:

  1. Go to v18 and:
    1. Install the new Windows desktop app for Windows users
    2. For Mac users, uninstall Chrome and Edge extensions on the desktops and install Chrome and Edge, pending the new Mac desktop app.
    3. Linux users have better notification functionality out of the box because on Linux and ChromeOS the new OS notifications work well and notify users of incoming calls without needing a Chrome extension.
in particular point 2. is confusing for me, Uninstall chrome extensions and install chrome.

@Tony Cave

You might want to check the contents of
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/3cxpbx-testing.list

Make sure it's

and then run
apt update

@steve-sydney
The second links in point two are different. The first two links are for the click-to-call only extension but the two next links are for the 3CX Browser extension for V18 which also includes the dialer but only to be used for Mac and Linux clients. Also, bear in mind that these will eventually be deprecated due to Google's API becoming unavailable in June 2022.

Do someone know why they removed/changed the extension for Chrome?
It was our main way of using 3CX in this pandemic. Nice upgrade. :-(

One of the reasons it is being discontinued is that a Google API it is utilizing is being deprecated.

Do bear in mind that you can take a look at this blog post for more details and the options currently available: https://www.3cx.com/blog/releases/v16-update8a-beta/
