I have a problem I can't figure out.

When one of my cisco phones gets a voicemail everything seems to work on the phone but if I press one of the line buttons or speaker button on the phone to get a dial tone I get a tone similar to a busy tone.
If I type the number first on the keypad and then press for example the speaker button the call goes thru like it should.

If I then listen to my voicemail using the voicemail button and hang up I then get a dial tone as normal when the phone doesn't tell me I have a voicemail any more. Everything back to normal.

Can anyone help me on this?

Yeah...that's the message waiting "dial tone", to alert you in the event you don't have an indicator (audible voicemail indicator). There is probably an option (in the set options) to disable it, if it bothers you. It is VERY common, even on residential POTS lines.

Ah, now I understand. I didn't even try to dial a number when I got that tone in my ear.

Does anyone know how to turn it off so I always get a "normal" dial tone? I have enough lights on my phone to make me awear of new messages.

had a quick look over the admin guide for the set...

https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/t...phones/administration/guide/spa_wip_admin.pdf

Didn't see a specific option for the message waiting dial tone, under special services (which is where the option tends to be on other Cisco sets with a GUI).. I have one of these sets but manually configured it, and don't have access to it, at the moment . If you auto configured, then any changes will be overwritten the next time the phone downloads it's config file. You could change the tone, of the Stutter tone, section 8, to that of normal dialtone, but, that will affect anything that uses that tone, and may not be a good idea. It will also change back unless the template is modified.

Thanks for your help. As you say I don't want want to change the tone for everything.

Anyone know how to do this? I've searched high and low and I can't find a single example of what I need to put in the cfg file.

Had a look over the setting on my set. About the only thing that i can see, to do, is to make changes to the MWI Dial Tone. This is under thee Regional Tab / Call progress Tones. Cut and past the Dial Tone settings into MWI Dial Tone.

Now, how you modify a config file for the phone to download, so it doesn't change the next time that happens (if it does affect tones), I don't know. You'd have to look at editing the file, checking for any tone settings, and either modifying, or adding.

I would log into the phone, manually make the changes, verify that it works, cause the set to re-provision, and see if it changed back to stutter dialtone.

Worse case scenario (this is not service affecting, simply a preference), you disable re-provisioning of the set until such time as you have to change any other feature/major changes.
