I have Yealink phones (T57w, T48s, T58a) that I can lock with a PIN through their web user interface. The problem is that 3CX wipes the setting when it reprovisions the phones, and there is no setting in the 3CX extension page to set and configure a lock PIN.

Wouldn't this be a basic security feature that should be in 3CX?

Hello Frank86,

At the moment we can't able to control the phone keypad lock from 3CX extension settings. If you set keypad lock PIN, 3CX wipes the setting when it reprovisions the phones.

You may try to create a custom template and edit the parameter for not changing the keypad lock password.
https://www.3cx.com/docs/custom-ip-phone-templates/

Except for this guide on how to correctly start creating a custom template, there is NO further support available whatsoever on this matter from 3CX.
Please note 3CX doesn't support custom templates and provision the phones at your own risk.

Sure... can you name another system that does this? Do you think most do?

Short answer is no. 3CX controls PBX settings, and a limited amount of device settings that are relevant to most, if not all supported devices. PIN protected phones are not one of those. But you can PIN protect outbound dialing, restrict calls out outside of hours, and other PBX centric features that don't care about the device initiating.

I don't know about other systems but any smartphone can do it. It's usually not a huge deal but if I set up a 3CX phone in a co-working space (think WeWork or similar), it can certainly become a concern.

Smartphones are protecting much more than just unauthorized phone calls. And your comparison is not apples to apples. The lock on smart phones is controlled by the device and the OS installed (iOS or Android for example). The 'PBX' or 'Phone system' would be your carrier who is not controlling that. In this case, the device does support the locking as you've noticed, but the PBX does not.

But in your scenario, you would use any number of the built-in features. Disabling calling outside of office hours for the extension assuming the user is typically always there during hours. Setting PIN protect on the extension. Or hot desking.
