In desk phone mode, does that mean my client does not need any type of SIP phone, and they can use their phones that they already have to interact with the 3CX IP-PBX server like any other phone?

Desk phone mode means you can use it alongside an existing hardware SIP phone, such as SNOM, Aastra, Grandstream, Linksys. You can also use it as a soft phone.
