Desktop app vs "chrome app"

They look the same, is this just supposed to be easier to manage/install for larger orgs or am I missing something.

scaling is different
using a 1920x1080 display at maximum physical resolution (recommended by windows 10) and scale set to 100% the minimum (also recommended)
shrink view of 3cx app to the minimum width allowed gives a size of 761 wide by 1036 high (space for tool bar at the bottom of the display)
the result is only 11 extensions are visible and the panel is about 50% white space.
it could be improved by:

• allowing icons to be 1/4 or 1/3 the size.
• available green square could be next to the smaller icon and optional
• text for available/do not disturb etc could be optional
• not an option to have neither status as text or colour square
• allow the extension display to be one line of the above items.
• could save space by allowing the 3 vertical dots to be a pop out or pop up (whatever). it is already dynamic so it could display over the status or part of the name until an option is selected

personally i would like to have just the name in a box with background shade of that box "button" for status.

The fundamental difference is that it provides more options for different organizations to use the different apps as best fits their needs. While the functionality doesn't change, the range of options does.

One difference that came to my attention last week is that using physical phones and the original 3CX Phone for Windows registers with 3CX using an IP address while the web and Electron clients do not.

That may seem both obvious and trivial, however, we use the registered IP address to identify the location of the phone so we can update their emergency group membership. IP based registration is only possible with physical phones and the original 3CX Phone for Windows. That may be a consideration when deciding which client to roll out within your organization.
