Hello!

I'm working on transitioning my clients from Asterisk to 3CX. Most have been straightforward, but we have a custom setup at a few locations. This one particular site has some custom logic which I think I will need to use CFD to replicate.

The location is a pizzeria. Their POS system has a Rochelle box with 2 lines coming in, which I have an ATA connected to. This rochelle box looks at the caller ID of an incoming call and displays the caller information on the POS, and even integrates with the client database to pre-populate the order information. Their POS has 2 workstations. The way we have it configured is if the call is answered by the left phone, some custom code on Asterisk generates a new fake call on the extension associated with port 1 of the ATA, and sets the caller ID to the caller's phone number. If it's the right phone, it dials extension 2. This works great.

I think I've figured out the fake call part within the CFD. But I cannot figure out how to (if there is even a way) determine which extension within a ring group answered the phone, and continue processing logic while the call is taking place. Can someone point me in the right direction?

There's no way to know who answered from a ring group. Not even via CFD.

It seems you may need to rethink 3CX for that customer. Special needs like that need to be evaluated before migrating normally lol

Yeah, we're still in the planning phases for that client. Looks like they're going to have to stay put. I know the phones have an option to make an HTTP request when a call is picked up, might try to take advantage of that.

Thank you for the input!

Yes, that would be the best way to do it.

Hang on. We should be able to do this with 3CX. However, Frederick is right, I don't think this can be done using the CFD. You need to be able to monitor server-side call events to determine who answered the call. This can be done with the 3CX Call Control API. You would need a service that subscribes to call events, and perform the necessary actions when a call is answered. I do not know the first thing about the POS system, but I assume we can send the necessary information directly? We can help.
