I have a SIP trunk provided by Broadvoice. It has 15 DID's. This phone system is basically divided between 2 companies. Right now, the caller ID is the same for all 15 DID's. I have requested a CNAM change with Broadvoice to provide Caller ID for outbound calls made from 5 specific DID numbers. I need some help on the setup on the 3cx end.

I currently have the 5 inbound DID's setup to go to Ring group 810 which rings 3 phones. Done, works good.

My issue is I want the 5 extensions in this office to use the same DID numbers for outbound calls so the correct Caller ID shows up when the CNAM database finally updates in a couple of days. I cannot get this setup. Basically 10 DID goes to extension group 600 - 650 and the other 5 to be used by Extension group 500 - 550.

HELP!!! Any suggestions?

Set the outbound caller ID (the full DID number) against each extension (extension settings). If your provider honours that, then any outbound call should show their DID.

There may also be a change required, in the outbound trunk settings, to allow this to happen.

But as that office grows, the number of extensions may increase to 10 before any additional lines are added. How do the additional extensions make outbound calls and the system automatically pick up an outbound call using one of the 5 lines assigned to this office? These additional phones will not have DID's assigned to them.

If you have one trunk group to your provider, you do not choose which "line", the call routes out on, it can use any channel up until it hits a limit. The caller ID sent is defined by either your provider, or how you have it set in 3CX. In 3CX this can be defined in a number of places. Adding an outside caller ID to an extension, is the method normally used, to send a DID number, for calls made by that extension.

So can multiple extensions send the same DID when making an outside call? If so, then I think this would fix my issue.

Yes? "Outbound Caller ID" as he said many times.

2 of the extensions use DID to call directly to their extension. Can the outbound caller ID be set on these extensions to the main DID number of the company so the recipient of the call sees the Company Caller ID name?

If so, then the inbound would route to the extension
And the outbound caller ID could the same for all extensions?

Inbound DID rules, and outbound caller ID are two different things. If a provider sends the DID information, and you have correctly set up DID rules, then an incoming call will route to the correct extension.

When these extension place a call an outside call, they can send the main office number, or their DID number, that is up to you, as long as it is permitted by your provider, as some do have restriction on the numbers that can be sent.

Caller ID name is another animal, and can be handled differently, with each provider, or location. In some cases, you can send a name, or it is send by your provider, from information you have chosen, or, it can be added by the receiving provider by doing a database lookup. That is, if a name is found.

I have requested the CNAM database change for the main number. That part should be completed by Tuesday. I have tested an extension on my desk that is connected to their 3CX PBX. I have changed the Outbound Caller ID 3 times to three different DID numbers assigned to their account and then called my cell phone. Each time the correct number showed up on my cell phone caller ID.

So from what I can surmise, once the CNAM info is published and I set the Outbound Caller ID for all extensions to be the number for the Main line for this company, then the caller ID that shows up on a recipient's phone should be the name of the company.

Let me know if my information is not correct. And thanks a bunch for all the help. Sorry to be a pain, just trying to understand. .

Thanks for the help.

What name shows up will depend on what your provider sends for each call, you'll have to work with them if it is not working the way you expect it to. In most cases, the first name sent, to a called party, is the one they will see, but, that may not be the case for certain destinations.
If it works for most calls, but not all, then you may not be able to do anything to resolve that. It may simply be that the destination does not honour the name sent, and that they replace it with what they choose.
