Solved Disk Full Help!

So, our Azure hosted 3cx has filled, without warning (even though admin warning should have alerted)
Having managed to SSH on there is 0% free and the 3cx server wont start - phone system down

So i need to get rid of some call recordings to free space t o get up and running but have ZERO linux knowledge
Anyone point me in the direction so i can manually remove some files

the drive is dev/sda1

Go to "/var/lib/3cxpbx/Instance1/Data/Recordings" and clear some old folders there, then reboot and configure the recording archival.

There's also probably something eating the disk space other than just recordings tho.

You can enable Remote Archiving:

1. Login to Management Console
2. On the left panel select 'Recordings' tab
3. Select 'Location' button and check the box 'Enable Remote Archiving'

I cant go into the console as the disk has ran out of space the console is not accessable, only access is through SSH

Well, from there, you either delete one folder of recording, or all of them. They are splitted per extensions.

Commands:
- To list files: "ls -l /var/lib..."
- To delete files: "rm -f /var/lib.../101/...wav"
- To delete folder: "rm -rf /var/lib.../101"

If you have extensions that you deleted but kept the recordings, I suggest deleting those. One folder should be enough to allow you to reboot, go into the console, and enable archiving. Then, manually select all recordings and click "ARCHIVE" to force them out of the system.

Brillint, i sussed the locations and ran the remove for a folder - Permission denied? Almost there... have i missed a step

Most Cloud providers don't use the root user but a sudoer like "debian" or "ubuntu" or "admin". Probably logged in as that and had to use SUDO.

That's because the files and folders in the 3cxpbx directory are owned by the user "phonesystem" which runs the PBX. So, SUDO elevates to Root and overrides the permissions.

Keep in mind that this can be dangerous if you mess up permissions.

Yeah didnt have a root user , but the tiny amount of linux i do know is SUDO for admin commands

If you download a tool called WinSCP and then connect to your instance via SSH details you can browse directories with the GUI and delete.

You will need root access to do this - This is at your own will. Do a backup of 3CX before you start playing.

How to enable root access:

sudo su -
nano /etc/ssh/sshd_config

Add the following line

PermitRootLogin yes

save file

reboot SSH

systemctl restart ssh

If you need the password of root changing

psswd

then you can do the following:

From the login screen you click advanced and change the following:





I would either then undo the changes you made removing the PermitRootLogin line, restart ssh or figure out how to restrict SSH access by IP.

Small correction:

DO NOT USE THE ROOT USER! It's a security hole to enable root through SSH. Use the regular user, with the private key/password, and then use the elevation shell as shown in the screenshot to run a sudo su -.
