I have a few extensions that need to be set up with a direct dial phone number. We have an existing SIP trunk but I can't seem to use any telephone numbers from it as direct dial numbers. I was able to get this to work by setting up a separate SIP trunk account for each direct dial number but I wanted to know if this was the right way to do it. Shouldn't I be able to set up the Direct Dial from the same SIP trunk as the main phone trunk is on?

All depends on your SIP setup

Do you have different accounts - username and passwords for each DDI - if so then you need to configure SIP account for each one and route as necessary.

Do you have one SIP account, and associated with it DDI numbers - if so then you setup one SIP trunk and add all the DDI numbers to the DDI tab under the SIP config. Then finally configure you inbound rules to route as necessary.

If unsure, something you need to ask your sip provider.

I only want to have 1 SIP account because having several is costing us $100's a month.

When I add all the DDI's to a single SIP trunk and I go to add a inbound rule I get this:

"In order to add an Inbound Rule, a SIP Trunk must be created first.
Go to SIP trunks and Add SIP Trunk."

Only 1 DDI is in use. So it seems I cannot have more then 1 inbound rule per SIP trunk.

You need to add the DDI numbers to the SIP trunk first, before setting up the inbound rules.

Within 3CX Management - SIP Trunks - Edit the trunk - Along the top you will see DIDs tab, click on this. This is where you enter all the DDI associated with that SIP trunk.

Yes, I did that. But I still receive the error message. I have 5 DDI's listed in the SIP Trunks / Edit Trunk page. One 1 is in use. But the Inbound Rules still will not permit me to add an additional rule. It seems to be SIP trunk-bound not DDI-bound.

I just realized that at the SIP trunk provider, I cannot attach multiple numbers to the same trunk ID and expect 3CX to see them as different DDI's. I need to create separate SIP trunks under the same SIP trunk account at the provider, then add all the SIP trunks ID's to the 3CX DDI screen under the same SIP trunk connection. Then it works.

Thanks for your help.

When you a add a new DID inbound rule, can you select any of the 5 DDI numbers within the DDI/DDI field ?
