I have a backup job set up in the management console to run daily at 3:00 a.m., with a 7-day rotation. After a few days (maybe a week, I don't know for sure), it started backing up twice at around that time. Here are the last 7 backup times:

3CXScheduledBackup.6.zip 05/03/2020 2:59:18 AM
3CXScheduledBackup.5.zip 05/04/2020 3:00:01 AM
3CXScheduledBackup.4.zip 05/05/2020 2:59:13 AM
3CXScheduledBackup.3.zip 05/06/2020 2:58:45 AM
3CXScheduledBackup.2.zip 05/06/2020 3:00:05 AM
3CXScheduledBackup.1.zip 05/07/2020 2:58:56 AM
3CXScheduledBackup.zip 05/07/2020 3:00:06 AM

I noticed this once before. I canceled the backup job and re-configured it and it ran once a day for a while and then went back to twice a day. I haven't let it run that way long enough to see if it stays at 2 per day, goes to 3 per day, or doubles to 4 per day.

The first time this happened, the backups were just done locally. Now they are stored by sftp. So it does not seem that the file storage makes a difference.

I do get two e-mails about the backup being done. So whatever process is causing the backup to happen twice is both doing the backup and sending the notification e-mail.

Any ideas on what might be causing this? I don't want to just reboot the server every week or turn backups off and back on once a week, so I hope we can find another answer.

Did this begin after changes were made to the schedule, a 3CX update was done, or just out-of-the-blue? Have you tried a re-boot, to see if it is resolved? Have you removed the settings and started over? Seems very strange that one backup is done at a time other than the 3 am time you have specified, something must specify that.

Note that 3CX is apparently doing backups up to 75 seconds before the scheduled time even when it only does one backup at a time. The system clock on the machine it's running on is accurate, at least within my ability to measure it against the other computers involved including the machine where the backup files are being saved. I have no idea why 3CX is running a backup before the appointed time. That could be a bug or a feature but we'd have to ask the developers which it is.

This behavior happened both before and after the recent update was rolled out. The behavior did not appear to coincide with the update or with any configuration changes.

I haven't tried a reboot yet. I don't want to upset the system in case there is some ephemeral data that I could gather now while it is acting up, which may disappear if I change anything.

I saw other threads about double backups, but they were happening at different hours, whereas ours are happening in rapid succession within 70 or 80 seconds of each other, right around the scheduled backup time.
