Hello,
I have a 16SC 3CX PRO edition and backups are set to go to ftp server. They are failing with the error:

Your 3CX backup failed due to the following reason(s):
The operation has timed out.

Any idea on the cause?

Could be many reasons... is the server reachable from the pbx?

There are few reasons:

1. Network Latency or Bandwidth Issues

  • Cause: If there’s high network latency or insufficient bandwidth between your 3CX server and the FTP server, the backup transfer might be too slow, causing it to time out.

2. Large Backup File

  • Cause: If the backup file is large, the FTP server might be too slow to receive the entire file before the operation times out.

3. FTP Server Timeout Settings

  • Cause: The FTP server may have a short timeout limit for long file transfers, especially for larger files.

4. Incorrect FTP Configuration (Passive vs. Active Mode)

  • Cause: The FTP connection might be misconfigured. FTP has two modes: active and passive. If the mode configured in 3CX doesn’t match what the FTP server expects, or if firewall settings block certain ports, this can cause a timeout.
