I have a Fanvil i12 door phone (listed as 3cx compatible by Fanvil, but not supported by 3cx). I'm using hosted 3cs, so I don't think I can use custom phone templates.

Anyway, I managed to provision it using stun and listing the phone as a Fanvil i21/i21T in teh management console and the phone DOES provision. I can even manage to call with it, but when the calls connect, we don't hear anything. Any idea what can be wrong here? Would an inappropriate template permit provision but soundless calls?

Edit: My user tag says free user but I just renewed today,

If you use STUN, you need to enable "PBX Delivers Audio" in the extension's settings. Also, you need to make sure that codecs and SIP settings are configured correctly in the Fanvil.

By the way, if you are Hosted by 3CX, STUN is not supported, so it will work but they won't help you with it. Custom templates are also inaccessible in Hosted.

I strongly recommend using an SBC on-site to at least have that part supported.

Hi Frederick, Thanks for the answer. To address your points:

  • I did choose the correct codecs, but I will check the PBS deliver audio option
  • Thanks, good to know
  • I DO have and use a SBC on site, but for some reason, when it detects the i12 phone, it only lists 127.0.0.1 as an address and I don't have the option of adding the phone, so I resorted to stun but if there's a solution to THAT problem, I'd much rather use the SBC!

Hi Alain,

The model is not supported so you will not be able to auto-provision it. We really recommend to use one of our supported models instead.

STUN is more difficult, you will face a greater challenge getting it to work than SBC.

If you simply reset it, then copy the settings from another fanvil SBC device you might get it to work but no guarantees. I will provide one hint as an example:

Note that we do not provide any support for devices outside of the list of ones that have been certified with 3CX.

Thank you John,

I have seen that the model does work and that templates exists and it is from a family of phones that you do support. Is there a reason why you don't add it to the supported line?

Thanks,

Alain

Hi Alain,

There are numerous models manufacturers produce, not everything is ever going to be supported as this requires extra work to be done by the manufacturer and by 3CX to maintain more models across their lifetime. There is no specific reason to exclude this one, but also no specific reason to include it if that makes sense.

If you have the knowledge of course you can build your own templates or modify existing ones to include models that are missing and happen to be compatible with existing ones, although I would not be too hopeful that they will be added officially in the future (especially for older models).

There are however plans for newer models to be added, hopefully by the end of this year but it's a bit too early for details now.

Hope this helps!

My understanding was that using a custom template was not an option with a hosted 3cx (the TEMPLATE setting is just not there). Is that correct? Because other users on the forum had success with that on their own install.

Yes that is correct, but only for instances hosted by 3CX

If you use your own hosting of course, you can do whatever you want on the machine because you have full access to it.

But be aware when using custom templates: the author of the template also takes the responsibility to constantly update and monitor stock template changes which might affect or break custom templates, or cause other undesired behavior on your system.

Thanks John, I managed to get it working through the SBC using your suggestion. I understand that the phone is unsupported and I appreciate your help!
