Floating Thumb Icon/Emoji Appears Next To Person Talking?

So, I was on a video conference with a couple of other people, that I created and was the moderator of. Occasionally, a floating "Thumbs Up" would appear next to me while I was talking. The others swore they were not doing anything on their end to invoke the thumb. I admittedly did only a very short internet search to see if this came up in a thread, but didn't come across anything.

Anyone know what this is?

Was a real thumb or it was a hand like this:



If you are in a webmeeting doing a conference then a participant can raise his hand for example to ask something about the meeting...

I didn't take any screen shots of the meeting. It was a floating "thumbs up" rocking back and forth next to the head of the talking presenter a few degrees, just enough to draw attention to it. It happened several times in about 90 minutes.

I would presume this is not a 'standard' thing to expect from a 3CX video conference. I will have to check with the presenter to see if the meeting was recorded and get back to this thread.

Thanks, I would like to see it because in all my webinars and meetings I have never seen a thumbs up floating, just when someone raise his hand

The video meeting was not recorded... No one raised their hands when this happened.

Hi,
there is nothing in 3CX webmeeting app for doing that.
Could it be the driver/software management of you webcam that recongnize your gestures and put emoji over the image?

MacOS 14.3.1 using 3CX... not Facetime. The link you provided didn't indicate MacOS 14, or that the gestures included a thumb or would work outside of Facetime.

I'll do a test video with someone between a Windows 11 & MacOS 14.3.1 PC later today. If it shows up, I should have enough information to determine if it is happening due an OS or non-3CX application.
. As long as it doesn't turn out to be some mysterious 3rd party barging into our conference... I am paranoid enough without having gone though the party drug stage in my youth!

Inconclusive, so far... I tried a casual video conference between my Windows 11 and macOS 14.3.1 laptops, but the test didn't invoke any responses.

I'll see if I can get a multi-party video going where the Mac is the initiator, like when it happened last week. It does look like the articles I was able to come across for iOS 17 devices, usually with 'WhatsApp". I don't use that. This was with 3CX.

More later, probably in a few days, for those interested.

lesthre, you were on track with this! It took a while, but a user on a MacBook Air (macOS 14.3.1) got animated and raised their hand in a way that looked like they were doing a 'thumbs up'. Then, an animated version came up next to their head. Repeating that action brought up variations of animations, mostly thumbs.

I keep seeing this attributed to specific video apps on iOS 17 devices, but it appears to include macOS 14 and just about ANY video conference program.

As a Windows person by default, it took me a while to get enough Apple users in a video conference to invoke the correct trigger. My paranoia about some unwanted participant (at least human) invading my conferences has been quelled

Just for future reference: Apple will allegedly give developers an option to disable the reactions in third-party video conferencing tools by default in the upcoming release of iOS/iPadOS 17.4 (https://www.macrumors.com/2024/02/27/apple-confirms-ios-17-4-reactions-change/). macOS was not explicitly mentioned but the next update is likely to get a similar feature.

Users will be able to re-enable these reactions but if this confusing for more users, 3CX folks might want to take a look at the new API to disable reactions by default.
