Happy New Year!!

Curious, is there a way to allow users to access the FollowMe settings (similar to the way they have access to Forwarding options) ?

If not, can I request this as a potential new feature :)

Many thanks!

If you activate the "Follow-me" feature for the extension in question and add the necessary follow me info then the user can access their account settings through the FreePbx email portal and change the follow-me settings.

To check this feature, use your extension number, make sure you have an "email address" to send your v/m notifications to. Call your extension and leave a v/m, then check that email address and see if you have a notification of a v/m, open the email and you will see from there how to access your v/m. Once you have signed on then you will see the "account settings" link on the left. Click on that and you will see how to change the follow-me requirements.

I hope this is what you are requesting.

Hmmm... That is what I am looking for.

But, now I am very confused.
I should not be giving users the Elastix admin, but the FreePBX admin?

The Elastix one...
  • Is much better looking, for users
  • Is accessible at the root domain (which users will most likely go to, and is easier to get to)
  • Has basically all the same features (excluding FollowMe and Web Playback Settings

If a user goes to the root domain they will get the Elastic admin, and in voicemail confirmations they get the freePBX admin, and for billing they get the a2billing admin... this is not user friendly at all...three different admins?

So, what is everyone else doing?
  • Do you give our three user portals to your clients?
  • Do you give out freePBX and a2billing portals only (and not Elastix)?
(if not Elastix, what do you do when users go to the Elastix admin and cannot access)?

"But, now I am very confused.

You asked for user to be able to access their follow-me settings.

The information I gave you does not give them "admin" access, only gives them access to the follow-me setting and other setting such as password change, etc....

Call your extension and leave a voice mail, if setup properly, then it will send you the v/m recording notification to your email, from there you can roam around and look it over. To my knowledge, very limited knowledge due to age, this is the only follow-me setting available to the user and it is through Freepbx unless they have signed on to the actual web portal of Elastix and you gave them the right to change it through Elastix.. You can always submit a request to the powers to be to develop a web page to your liking or request someone on here to write the code for your web page to do what you want.

Of course I could be wrong all the way around on this. You may want to wait to see whom else responds with another answer.

I'm not sure where your users are getting to the "admin" page of anything unless you have set each user up as an "admin" instead of a "user", just my thought on the subject. I don't give any user access to the "root" as you put it (better know as admin) unless it is a single server setup for that customer, then I only give "admin" access to one person with that company if they maintain it. If I maintain it NO ONE GETS ACCESS TO ADMIN.....

Now if you want your user to have access to follow-me, a2billing info, and other such info then you may want to rephrase your question and explain a little better what you are looking for so inept people like me better understand what you seek, there again I go with my hair brain thought.

Hi Amphibian,

Sorry, by admin I meant the web portal.

Elastix has a great web portal, but is missing a couple of items user items like FollowMe and Web Playback Settings from the Extension settings section.

The freePBX portal is OK, but is not as professional looking as Elastix.

There is also the issue of the Elastix portal being at the root directory, so users tend to end up at that one (and not freePBX).

There is also the a2billing portal, do this means there are 3 potential user portals available.... thus very confusing to customers.

I seem to be asking questions that do not get replies...

There is a user portal (http://domain.com) that is the Elastic portal. This portal is nice and professional looking, but shows too much to a user, like the application version and does not have all the calling features like Followme and Web Playback Settings.

There is another user portal(http://domain.com/reporting/) that is the freePBX portal. This one is OK but not very professional looking.

and there is yet another user portal (http://domain.com/a2billing/customer/) that is the a2billing portal. This one is dedicated to calling card billing functions.

Why so many user portal?
Can there not be just be one user portal?

What am I missing here?

Sir voipmuch,

"""I seem to be asking questions that do not get replies... """

It may be for two reason:

1: This is a "free" forum and one sometimes has to wait for responses when there are some people to answer them,

2: may also be a lack of understanding of what each "portal" as you put it is for.

""""There is a user portal (domain.com) that is the Elastic portal. This portal is nice and professional looking, but shows too much to a user, like the application version and does not have all the calling features like Follow-me and Web Playback Settings.""""

This tells me you haven't read the book/manual called "Elastix without tears" otherwise I think you would have a better understanding of how to set the "portal" up for your users. If you are the one maintaining the system, setting up the users, YOU select what is displayed to the user under "System", User Groups" by selecting (or placing a check mark in the box) what you want the user to have access to. You as system admin (or anyone else you set up as "admin" right) sets up the extensions, assign the follow-me routine, ect.....

""""There is another user portal(domain.com/reporting/) that is the freePBX portal. This one is OK but not very professional looking. """""

There again, read the manual.... You read the manual and you will find out that FREEPbx was one of the first PBX user portals. It has remained around throughout the version changes for several reason, one because some people like it, two because some functions and mods are only available within FreePbx, and three because some functions are available within both Elastix & FreePbx and is your choice as to which one you use,

""""and there is yet another user portal (domain.com/a2billing/customer/) that is the a2billing portal. This one is dedicated to calling card billing functions."""""

a2billing "portal" is yet another function (accessory if you would), written by another open source provider and is included with Elastix as a option for calling cards, or voip billing, etc.., and is provided as a option that you can have or not have depending on what you are trying to do. Some people download Elastix strictly for the calling card feature. Elastix provides it for you so that "NEWbee" don't have to go through a lot of pain figuring out how to install the thing and make it work, you only have to learn of to make the "billing" parameters work for what you need. You can read about it at a2billing.org ( I believe that is the correct web url).

"""Why so many user portal? Can there not be just be one user portal? """

There again, it is based on what you want to do with the software and the type of service you want to provide. Since it is free and open source, it is easier to include/provide certain applications then to have ten million people wanting it and tying up our time explaining how to install then explaining how to make it work for them. I know, because I write open source applications and I can telling you from experience. A lot of times it's easier for me to include additional apps with my stuff since I have checked it out and know that it works then to try and help gobs of people to make it work.

""""What am I missing here? """"""

A strong knowledge in communication software and where such systems as Elastix started from. But that's ok, you still have time to research PBX systems, phone systems, calling card history and advances other such thing to get you up to speed where sooner or later you will know more than me.

I think the questions here you should be asking is:

1: Can I provide an avenue for a user to setup and change the "follow-me" setting through a slim user interface,

and,

2: how can I provide access to "web playback" settings for the user to access?

I am researching this to try and help you, maybe someone else will respond also. But I would start searching this forum for those questions and see if you can locate answers to them. Now I too, aint on here a lots, so don't be expecting a super thunder lightning response from me.

Hi Amphibian,

This was my original question... "is there a way to allow users to access the FollowMe settings (similar to the way they have access to Forwarding options)? "

As these are not available in the Elastic portal for users.... only for admins.
If these are given to users, then they have more access then they should and can change other settings.

I have a feature request opened to add these two items to the Elastic extension settings,so users can edit them.

From what I have seen, these are basically the only two user features that are not accessible for users to edit.

Thanks.
