General Deployment Questions

Hello,

I have installed version 16.0.4.504 on a Windows Server 2016. I am evaluating the system and I am fairly new to this platform. I was hoping some of you folks could weigh in on the questions I have posed below.

1.) Will SRTP and TLS if enabled overburden the PBX due to increased overhead? I plan to run this on a Windows OS.

2.) In the FaxServer section I see a default extension of "888". I don't see an option to create another inbound Fax extension. Does the 3CX server have the capability to create multiple inbound Fax Extensions?

3.) I need to come up with a solid way to manage e911 services for a client with multiple locations. I plan on distributing specific DID's to each location. What would be the most efficient way to assign the CID to each location so that I can apply the correct e911 services? Would it be best to make a call group for each location and assign the extension from that location to the group?

1. No need for those, actually they aren't supported. Use the SBC which is already encrypted via the tunnel.
2. Yes you can create more or simply use the "Send FAX To" and send to different email addresses.

The system is on premise.

1.) Frederick Marcoux - Note sure I understand your response to this question. Both TLS and SRTP are supported in the 3CX on premise System Management Panel. I just need to know if we enable both on a windows OS deployment if the increased overhead is significant enough to worry about.

2.) Frederick Marcoux - For the Fax server question this in regards to inbound faxing. I don't see an option to create another inbound Fax extension other that what is already populated. Can you please elaborate as it sounds like your response is in reference to outbound faxing?

3.) Frederick Marcoux - Thanks for you response on this as I have what I need on this now.

The overhead is hard to say. A good CPU (Xeon and such) won't see a problem unless you have a lots of calls and transcoding. However, if you want to be supported by 3CX, you cannot use Secure SIP. The provisioning only does regular UDP. 3CX will ask to reprovision using the official template in case of issues. That was my point.

Actually, my answer is about inbound fax. First, you can create FAX extensions under 3CX Console > Advanced > FAX. Also, you can use the built-in FAX server to send faxes to the extension's email address. This can be setup in inbound rules, you will see an option in the destinations called "Send FAX to" and the sublist will be populated with all the extensions having an email. This way, each user can have a dedicated FAX DID.
