I have an on-prem 3cx system running on Windows 11, works great. I also integrated a Grandstream GXW4104 into the system to utilize the Charter/Spectrum phone line for external calling. I got this all setup per the instructions on 3CX's page, which are always awesome...however, every now and then when my client goes to make an outside call, he gets a destination not available message. When I log into the system, I see that under SIP Trunks, the Grandstream device has a red dot beside it, rather than a green.

To fix this, I log into the Grandstream device itself and go to the Maintenance tab, then Upgrade/Provisioning, and hit the Save icon on the bottom and the device reboots, and then everything works great.

I'm on the current firmware recommended by 3CX of 1.4.1.5, so I'm not sure what else I need to check to keep this from going offline.

Once a week is too much of a coincidence.

what is your dhcp lease time?

Its a very common issue with this device. We have several in the field. If 3CX reboots/restarts you have to restart the grandstream device after so that it re-connects.

The "un-official/un-supported" fix that works for 95% of installs that I have is to go to the entry in 3CX under sip trunks for the Grandstream device and change it to IP based instead of Registration. This fixed it for all of our installs except for one.

I suggest to try that and confirm you can still make and receive calls. Then reboot/restart 3CX and confirm the GS device reconnects again without reboot. If it doesn't the change is easy to revert.

I should have elaborated. It may not be a "weekly" occurrence, but it jives more with CentrexJ's response of whenever the 3CX reboots or restarts. It seems that when I reboot the system, or run an update from 3CX, that's when it goes offline. I know in the past week or two, we've had a power outage (working on getting a UPS installed)...as well as 3CX has had 2 updates applied within the past week.

I did change the Authentication type per your suggestion to "Do not require - IP Based" and rebooted the 3CX system, and the SIP Trunk still shows green.

I'll monitor and see if it goes offline, but I very much appreciate this suggestion and hope it solves the minor headache!

When you change a trunk to IP Based it ALWAYS shows a green dot. The dot is no longer an indicator of up/down.

You need to actually make a call / test the system with IP based trunks to verify if they are working,

I have the same issue, everytime the 3cx reboots, the grand stream change to red dot, if I change to ip based registration, change to green dot but still without working, I test with a call,

do you found a solution?

only happens to grand stream?

to make it work you need to reboot the grandstream.

Thanks

You need to look at the registration logs.
I bet you the Grandstream is registering once a hour or some stupid high number. 3CX want's registrations every 120 seconds.

If this is the case then you need to contact Grandstream if further troubleshooting is required.
