Grandstream HT801 beeping randomly during calls

Hi,

I'm trying to set up a rotary phone for my sister's birthday. I bought a Grandstream HT801 for the ATA, and I used this phone. When I call an extension, or a different extension calls me, the audio on the other device is just fine. But, on the rotary phone, when the person on the other side of the call talks, it comes through on the rotary phones as just a couple of beeps with varying volumes, time between beeps, and pitches. I think its an audio codec problem, but I'm not sure. I added the ATA as a "DECT/FXS" device, and I uploaded the configuration file given to me by 3cx to the Grandstream HT801. I also tried switching up the codecs, but it still doesn't work

Hi, just curious if you have tried / or can easily try first a simpler use case scenario? For example, get your hands on a vanilla touch tone telephone rather than a rotary phone. Do your tests in this config, validate that the ATA <> 3cx is behaving ok. I would not expect there to be any difference in the ATA Config really for (rotary vs touch tone dialing) (? but not 100% sure to be honest. Maybe at least there is a feature to enable the ATA to recognize rotary dial which differs from tone dialing, I am not sure, since I have not got access to a rotary dialer phone / have never tested this. - but - I do have a grandstream older ATA in service / with a vanilla dialtone style landline phone, and 'it just works fine' and there is no drama. you of course need to do some gentle custom config of the settings in your ATA to have it talk to the SBC or 3cx server. But. This is 'doable'.

ie, end of the day, it might be smoother sailing to get a 'simpler use case' working first (vanilla non-rotary touch tone phone) with the ATA <> and 3cx. <> with good audio <> for inbound calling to the handset from another 3cx EXT. Then try to test outbound call from the touch tone phone. And after that swap over the different phone (rotary dialer) handset. But as far as the ATA is concerned, the phone is connected on 2 pieces of copper wire (red, green) and the ATA can't tell the difference if the downstream physical handset phone is a rotary phone vs a touch tone - at least if you 'pick up the handset and go off-hook' they are 'identical' devices as far as ATA is concerned. The only 'difference' is how the phone handset generates outbound dial 'tones vs clicks' (I think).

The reason why I decided to go straight to the rotary is cause I was following Networkchuck's tutorial on setting up a pone system. Now that you mention it though, he didn't use a rotary phone. He used a push button phone. On the ATA, I did notice there was something called '3cx provisioning' that was turned off? Does that need to be turned on?

Hi, did you refer to any of the documentation in 3cx - regarding setup for this ATA Device? for example there is info here, on the grandstream devices - similar - relevant to what you are trying to do, I think:

I have not worked with the device you are talking about specifically so not precisely sure about 'any' detail (ie, your question re: 3cx provision turn on feature?' - rather all I can do is give some general high level suggestions based on ~past experience.

Hopefully this support doc will help point you in the right direction to get the ATA communicating with 3cx ..

I'll try that, thanks! If that doesn't work, I also found a YouTube video about adding an analog phone to 3cx. I have briefly skimmed over that article, but never followed it. I do know for a fact though, that my Grandstream HT801 isn't running the latest and greatest firmware
