Hi!

I need to migrate 3cx PRO V20 to a new host computer.

What is the best way to do it with minimal downtime?

Can I install it on the new computer, then restore the last backup taken on the old computer?

Yes that will work, to restore during the install. Shut the old one down first.

Note for Pro the TTL for a 3CX hostname is 6 hours. (relevant if you're changing public IPs)

I agree with @SteveITS , do it outside of working hours if possible, do the latest backup, restore to the new server, you just need to physically move the LAN Cables (I am assuming you are using an onpremises server) leave both on, but only 1 server connected to the network, shutdown the old server if you are sure it is working properly with new one.

So, there's no way I can have both running, ok.

As for FQDN, as far as I remember, it's the first parameter I have to set up, during install.

Can I use the current one (set up on the old server that is about to be brought down)?

Or should I have to set up a new FQDN and then, when I have the new server up and running, all data restored, connected to the Internet, I will have to update the new FQDN in the 3cx portal?

Same FQDN. Comes over in the restore from backup. 3cx makes it pretty painless to move and restore.

Depending on what license you have, you can set up your new location as a failover server, then when you're ready to move do a final backup/restore and turn off your old location.

Of course, you only need Backup & Restore, as long as your public IP does not change there should be no propagation on your FQDN, good luck.
