Hello everyone,

We are running the following system:

  • Installation Type: Local
  • License: Professional
  • Version: 20.0 Update 3
We’re encountering an issue that is causing unnecessary additional costs and confusion.
Users of our phone system are dialing full phone numbers with the area code, despite repeated reminders, even though these are internal calls. As a result, these calls are treated as "external" and processed differently.

A technical solution would be helpful, such as having 3CX recognize whether the dialed number belongs to our own number block and route it internally, as it does when only the internal extension is dialed. Is there a solution for this in 3CX, or does anyone have an idea on how we might resolve this issue technically?

I realize this is a relatively simple problem and that users should just dial the internal extension, but users aren’t always the easiest to manage.

I am thankfull for every advise

HI - You mean they dial the full number from the 3CX client? Why, they just click on the name and it will use internal number? Is it for reporting? Soon you will be able to do more processing on the records and you can identify your own numbers if you like. But system will treat it as an external call because it is infact if you put a full number there.....

Hello,
Yes, exactly—some of our users are entering the entire phone number. This isn’t about calls made by selecting profile pictures in the team overview.

Our phone system is used across multiple locations and on various devices. We have PC clients, desk phones, and DECT systems in use. As a result, users sometimes don’t realize that calling another company location doesn’t require an external area code but can simply be done internally using the three-digit extension.

It would therefore be helpful if the 3CX instance could recognize locally registered DID numbers and process these directly at the local level, rather than forwarding them to the trunk.

Start billing them for these calls and see how quickly a user learns. (Source: Experience from a previous job. Once we started issuing bills, they learnt SURPRISINGLY FAST)
