Is 3CX (installed from Debian based iso) supported on KVM, if the KVM itself is running Ubuntu?

We are successfully running several 3CX VMs on Nutanix AHV, all were installed using the Debian based iso image. We now have an open support ticket for one of them, and Support tells us that this Hypervisor is not supported, and thus we need to "fix" this first. Although Nutanix is using KVM, it's the CentOS compliant version, not the Debian-based as we get with Debian or Ubuntu. Ok, I get that.

We are now considering to migrate this VM to another server we have, which is running KVM 8.2.2 on Ubuntu Server. Which is basically KVM for Debian, packaged for Ubuntu. And although all guides we see simply state that KVM 2.8+ is supported, without restricting the underlying OS, Support is telling us that this combination (KVM on Ubuntu as Host OS) is NOT supported.

Is someone here able to clarify this? We don't want to put the effort in to migrate the VM over (it's a production system), update the Support ticket, only to be told that this setup is still not supported...

No, you must install KVM Debian based not Ubuntu based.

Reason being is the underlying operating system can make a difference. And whilst Ubuntu is Debian based its not working 100% with 3CX so we do not recommend the Ubuntu / KVM combo just yet. Ubuntu support is something we will certainly look into though, just not now.

Does it have to be the Debian standard kernel for KVM or is the Debian kernel maintained by Proxmox (which is always slightly more up-to-date) also accepted for 3CX support requests?

Thats a good question I don't know the answer but I will revert

Even though the answer has probably already been mentioned here and there, either directly or indirectly, we are facing the challenge of switching to Proxmox as our hypervisor due to Broadcom's acquisition of VMware and the radical changes to their pricing and licensing policies. For us as an ISP, Proxmox is the best overall choice at the moment...

Is 3CX not interested in supporting Proxmox in this context, given that KVM is already listed?

And if a support ticket is created by a partner for a customer where the problem isn't necessarily related to the hypervisor, will they still not receive support if it turns out that the customer is running on Proxmox/KVM?

An answer to these questions from 3CX would be appreciated, because if this isn't an option in the future, we'll have to figure out how to proceed with hundreds of 3CX VMs...

I dare say that due to the whole VM issue, a great many will switch to Proxmox. If 3CX were to cut support here, it would probably not be very beneficial in the long run, neither for partners nor for the product itself.
