I need help with stopping 3CX from changing the "Default Dial Mode" on the Fanvil X210 from "Video" to "Audio."

This happens every time after some settings of the extension provisioned to X210 are changed on 3CX, despite that I have manually set "Default Dial Mode" to "Video" on X210's webpage.

For example, if I go into the the extension's settings on 3CX, make an update on one of the BLF keys, reboots the phone, then the Default Dial Mode that was previously set on the device webpage to "Video" will be switched back to "Audio" by 3CX, which breaks the capability of X210 to make video calls.

  • 3CX Version: Standard Annual 16.0.9
  • Server OS: Windows 10
  • Is the 3CX Server Hosted and where? Not Hosted
  • IP Phones: Fanvil X210 v2.4.7
  • Provisioning Method: Local
  • Has the Firewall Checker passed: YES
  • Are custom Phone Templates being used: NO

If it is being changed because that is what it in the 3CX template, and I'm assuming that is what is happening, then I suspect you will have two choices. Edit the template, making the set Un-supported. Or, provision the set, make the changes manually, then prevent the set from doing furthur updates.

Thanks @leejor for explaining the possibilities.

First option of editing 3CX template is beyond my skill set so this is no doable. The second option may work, until some extension/phone settings need have to be updated on 3CX, then it will break again.

Is there a way for 3CX to work with Fanvil to stop this from happening? I plan on contacting Fanvil too, is there something that I can specifically ask them to do?

Or I have to rely to 3CX to reach out to Fanvil directly? @ChrisC_3CX @JohnS_3CX

Hi @3CXfan

Without getting too technical here, I will say that we do not plan on making that change on our end, and have actually made the decision to keep it this way as it reduces certain problems that would otherwise produce more complaints than they would happy customers.

So in short, your solutions are the ones @leejor mentioned: custom templates, or remove the provisioning URL from the phone

Start by copying the fanvil template in your PBX to make your custom one.
Do a search for "default_dial_mode" and you'll find the entry in there.
Change that value to whatever you need it to be
reprovision phone.

Thanks @kieferschild for providing instructions to change default template

Just a question about the "remove the provisioning URL from the phone" method mentioned by @JohnS_3CX.

If this is done, does it mean all existing settings will be retained but if someone changes anything on the phone itself or on the phone webpage, 3CX will not overwrite anything again until the provisioning URL is added back?

Any changes made, on the phone itself will be retained until you allow the set to be re-provisioned again, by 3CX. Then any of those changes will be lost and will have to be re-added, manually. Any changes made on the phone web page will not take affect until re-provisioning is enabled again (URL is added back).

That is correct, the phone is now incapable of provisioning itself, or being provisioned from the management console.
