When we migrated to V20 we *thought* we knew the admin account and password.
But we cannot login to it via the new windows interface.
We do have access to the host machines console.

Is there a way to establish a new admin?
Or go we need to resurrect the old version 19 system and start over?

You need to login with the system owner credentials. Do you know the email address? Than you can reset the password.

By Admin account, i'm assuming you are talking about the System owner.
If so, Have you tried "forgot password" option?
Provide the email id that is associated with the System owner account, and select the forgot password option.
You should get the option to sign in.

I reset the password and can login but It appears I messed up the "Owner" setting so I cannot get the "Dashboard" functionality.
Is there a way to fix that?

The Dashboard no longer exists in 3CX v20. It has now been replaced with an "Admin" tab. Check out my image for more details.

I understand the dashboard no longer exists.
Though I *should* be the owner, something got sideways while migrating from 19 to 20. and my desktop app does not have the ADMIN button.

So is there a way to establish/add/change/update the owner?
I have access to the console of the host machine (AWS Virtual Machine).

There is no official solution to bypass the security mechanism designed by 3CX, even via the SSH console.

An unofficial solution would be to obtain an unencrypted backup, or to create an unencrypted backup via SSH, retrieve a Dbxxxxx.xml file—it contains the configuration of all users. Check if there is another user with the owner role. If so, note their extension number and email address. Then, on the login page, use the 'forgot password' option and try to retrieve the email sent to the address you noted earlier. If that’s not feasible, an alternative would be to modify the XML file and replace the existing file in the folder, although the chances of success are low.

I managed to do this once, having to perform all operations directly on Linux because attempting it on Windows corrupted the backup file to the extent that it could no longer be used as a backup to restore.

@BillR The Admin button won't show if console restrictions are enabled and you're connecting from an unapproved IP. If the server is using a private IP, all RFC1918 IPs are allowed by default.

It should refuse to update if you don't have a system owner set.

@Guillaume Bourgeois I think 3CX adds a hash to the backup file so it can't be modified.

In my opinion, this issue stems more from something that Windows does, which Linux does not. Upon analyzing the data, I notice that the attribute of the file modified with Linux differs from that of the file modified with Windows.

It might be unrelated, but with Linux, I can decompress the file, modify the .xml file, and overwrite the existing file in the zip folder, and .. the backup folder remains valid.

I’d noted you said that above. Perhaps something changed, but I seem to remember threads where it wasn’t possible. Good to know it is.
