Hi there,
Firstly, apologies if this has been asked elsewhere, I did try and search but came up empty. I'm just after some clarification around the chrome extension for V18 U2.
The key question here is: Does it only work on non windows OS's or is there a way it can be used on windows?
I'm not trying to stir up anything around moving to the web client/app etc, that's an in progress move with training because users are much used to the extension, we just are trying to get back on their feet whilst we get people trained up and moved over.

I've been able to install the extension into chrome, but when I go to the webclient I don't get the button to activate the extension. (But do on my MacBook or when I fudge the user agent in the browser)

I get that the official answer is Web Client or App, I'm just after a definitive answer on is it physically not possible to get this working on windows out the box without doing something like fudging the user_agent etc?

Thanks! :)
Matt

Hi Matt,

Let me try and clear things up.
As you are on V18 U2 (I would suggest installing the latest one released today btw with the PWA update), there are 2 plugins that are available:
The Click2Call essentially finds numbers on websites and converts them into clickable numbers that can loaded into the Windows Desktop App or WebClient, ready to be dialed. This is for numbers that are not already in a "tel" format.

The Dialer is the plugin you are familiar with from V16, but as you correctly said, only non-Windows users can provision it. Windows Users are supposed to install the Desktop App which is intended as the replacement for the Dialer. Once the Mac Desktop App comes (which is on the way btw....), the same will be expected of MacOS users too.
The Dialer has an "expiration date" at June 2022 at the very latest, as that is when Google will be removing support for some APIs that are required.
For this reason, we don't recommend using it at all.

In the latest V18 U2 PWA update that was in fact released officially today, you have another option that you can use on all OS, including Windows, although for Windows users I would suggest sticking with the Desktop App.
That is the Progressive Web App.
For non-Windows OS, I would suggest this over the Dialer.
