I hope this has not been discussed here before, I really searched for a long time and didn't come with a suitable answer for my situation.

I subscribed to my SIP Trunk Provider for 2 channels giving me 2 outbound calls, 2 inbound calls + they offer 1 free/extra inbound call per channel, something I was no aware of. So here I am with possibly 6 sim calls.
I will probably never reach that, I don't need those, I don't even have enough phones nor extensions configured and I only have a license for 4 sim calls anyway. And I have no foreseable need to upgrade that to 8 anytime soon.

So my question is : what exactly happens when for example I have 2 outbound calls and more than 2 inbound calls in the queue ? What does that 5th call do ? Does it get dropped ? Can it get dropped ?
What I don't want is having outside people calling in and getting the 3CX licence limit reach (I am not sure what the message exactly says but I read this happens), I would rather have those calls just not get through. I am coming from a very light ISDN installation with just 2 sim calls only so 4 is already a luxury.

Is there/what is a way to configure 3CX to limit the number of incoming calls and simply reject the "overflowing" calls ?
I can't limit that number the SIP Trunk side unfortunately.

Thanks, and again , sorry if this is obvious to some, it is just not to me.

You can limit the number of calls, on the trunk to , say, 4. 3CX doesn't care if they are incoming or outgoing. It is going to be up to your provider as how they deal with the 5th call (third incoming), when 3CX rejects/refuses it, perhaps a busy signal.

Have you spoken to them about not allowing a 5th call?

Thanks, I configured my SIP Trunk to max 4 Sim Calls in 3CX, I am but I am not sure about how 3CX deals with those. Do they get dropped ? That is what I don't understand.

If 4 calls are in use, then an additional call should send a message back to your provider that you are not accepting additional calls. It is up to your provider as to what they do with that information. Logic would suggest that they send the caller a busy signal, but you'd have to test this yourself, or ask them.

OK, fair enough. I am starting up with the IPBX stuff and haven't integrated the SIP messages and how they work.
What you say is quite obvious actually and I can test it as you are suggesting.

Thanks for somehow clearing the fog around me. :)

If you place a fifth call to the PBX, check the Activity Log to see the messaging sent back to your provider. You might have to set the logging as Verbose to see the details.

I would also ask them to remove that additional call, if you don't require it. They have the ability to set any limits they want, from their end. For many, it's just too much trouble, but if you push it, they might.

If you limit your trunk to 4 calls and a 5th one arrives the PBX will reject that call by sending a "600 Busy Everywhere" message back to the provider.
