Linksys SPA-3102 as a PSTN Gateway_not registered

Hi VanDivx,

I noticed your firmware should be updated, even if you bought just now, they flash it with outdated firmware anyway, mine is version 5.1.5(GWa)

I don't understand the Linksys s/w versions! The UK site is offering version SPA3102-03-02-10-GW.bin and the US site has SPA3102-5-1-5-GWa.bin

Anyone know if there is any difference?

I enabled both firmware and regional setting in the country in the middle EU to update automatically and it updated the firmware as well as the regional settings, I think I had the same firmware as you have, I purchased my SPA3102 end of Nov 2006

not sure of the differences, seems like some obscure settings were added but for me the important thing is that I have all the fields as everybody has, so that when I copycat some settings and compare them I don't have to wonder why I am missing this or that entry field etc., I think for begining user your firmware is otherwise functionally just as good as any

in my country some ISP or reseller that provides these units to their customers makes such updates freely accessible to anyone by remote provisioning, if it wasn't for that I probably wouldn't bother updating

Ok let me see how I can add confusion to the matter.

Good, so we now all understand that Line1 is for your VSP and PSTN is for your POTS, both use regional settings.

Linux PC ruled that option out and I am back to 3CX)

Stay with 3cx mate, give it some R&R and it will be fine in the end.

Eureka, finally the phone connected to Line1 port of SPA rings when I call its extension

Ok backup up a little, to make the extension ring you do not need to have Line1 configured.
You have 3 options:
1 the lines (eg extensions)
2 Provider
3 Gateway

They (as i understand it) can work independently from each other but you NEEED one extension to receive a call from external (eg provider or gateway).

True, and it is raised I urge 3cx to get that fixed and for sure that will happen with new releases of software and manuals.

however I have no voice either way through it, reason being my NAT situation - I can test only with 3CX phone located on internet - that is outside NAT (probably have that dreaded symmetric NAT) but I will make a new thread on that issue as its better to keep it separate.

Thanks for keeping that seperate, if you have no voice that is due to either codecs or RTp ports. You need to have UDP 10000-20000 open, you can specify the individual ports as they are in the SIP setting of your SPA3102 under RTP Parameters.

I am begining to get quite confused with all those SIP ports 5060....
reason is I have three 'places' where ports have to be set -
first is SPA where you say (and itfarmer here) Line1 and PSTN should get different ports, say 5060 & 5061 (BTW what is "EXT SIP Port:" ? is it something usefull to use? It probably means Exterior SIP Port?)

Line1 SIP Port is ALLWAYS the sip port that connects you to your VSP. 5060 as configured in VOIP provider in 3cx
PSTN SIP Port is different to the one for Line1 (although 3cx has 5060 I have 5061 on the SPA)
EXT SIP Port is to substitute the actual SIP port of the unit in all outgoing SIP messages.

second is 3CX pbx where you have SIP ports and RTP ports... those SIP ports here I assume are vis a vis my router gateway (that's the third point where SIP/RTP ports are set up) and have nothing to do with what ports SPA uses or what, or else you can have the same port like 5060 open between SPA & 3CX as well as 3CX & router....
thing is I know how to forward ports in LAN setting and have some adequate knowledge what ports are but here I am begining to feel swamped especially when 3CX softphones also need ports and there are those RTP for internal and external traffic in 3CX (as per 3CX manual setup) and also SPA has RTP min 16384 and max 16482 RTP ports which makes me want to throw up honestly because I don't know anymore what I am doing especially when things don't work and who knows why not, if its ports or that symmetric NAT or what else

LOL, it is confusing

IF your 3cx is on the same lan segment as your IP phones you do not have to have any ports open as it does not go through a fire wall.
The description is a bit misleading actually but this is how it sits.

IP phones --->3cx --->IP phones ---> firewall No ports need to be open.
IP phones --->3cx ---->STA3102 ---> firwall ---> VSP Open ports UDP 5060, UDP 10000 - 20000 (or the range that is configured on your STA)

IP phones ---> 3cx ---> STA3102 ---> firewall ---> PSTN Open ports UDP 5060, UDP 10000 - 20000 (or the range that is configured on your STA)

IP phones ---> 3cx ---> firewall -->STA3102 ---> PSTN Open ports UDP 5060, UDP 10000 - 20000 (or the range that is configured on your STA), UDP 7000 - 7500

IP phones ---> 3cx ---> firewall -->STA3102 ---> VSP Open ports UDP 5060, UDP 10000 - 20000 (or the range that is configured on your STA), UDP 9000 - 9003
