Hello Community,

I am hoping you can help me shed some light on something we have noticed today, many inbound calls are displaying a caller ID of: [V] XXX-XXX-XXXX. I have included a screenshot of our PBX call log. I'm guessing this has something to do with SHAKEN/STIR? Not sure if we need to do anything on our side?

  • 3CX Version: Professional Annual 16.0.8.9
  • Server OS: Windows Server 2016
  • Is the 3CX Server Hosted and where? On Prem
  • IP Phone Make/Model/Firmware: Grandstream GXP series
  • Provisioning Method: Local LAN
  • Trunk Provider or Gateway Make/Model: Flowroute and Telnyx
  • Has the Firewall Checker passed: YES
  • Are custom Phone Templates being used: YES
Thank you much!

Is this coming in as the caller ID name? Are these legitimate calls, or Robo calls? Have you asked your provider?

Has someone been messing with your SIP trunk inbound formatting?

Hi @CFMtech,

This is being sent by Flowroute, I'd suggest speaking with them and asking them why this is happening.

Hello all,

Thank you for the many replies. To answer the questions:

1. Yes this is showing in place of the caller ID. These are all legit calls, not robo calls.
2. No one has been messing with the PBX or our provider's config. We have a small team that performs our telephony support, shared mailboxes for MFA (would be very obvious to the team if someone got in there and didnt own up to it) and no maintenance has been perform or other changes to the affected system.
3. We do have a ticket into the provider, however they are typically quite slow to respond.

Since VasilisV doesn't believe this is a 3cx issue, I will update this thread again once I hear back from the provider in hopes whatever the outcome is, may be of use to someone else.

Thanks everyone.

Great @CFMtech, if you run a Wireshark packet capture you'll see that the provider sends the [V]. Let me know what they say!

Just following up, the issue was resolved on FR side with the [v], but ever since they implemented this change the CID on the apps and phones comes up PREPEND Que:CNAME

Before, it used to display PrependQue:CNAME:CID#

Obviously the prepend que is our setting per contacts and could be appended as well, but what is strange is that CID is no longer appearing. Anyone else see this issue?

this may be validation form STIR/SHAKEN

yes it is and as per above it was an issue they resolved with their CNAME provider , sorry to hijack the thread.... just figured it might be related to something they've done that now removes the caller ID # from the end of the caller ID string ...

FWIW this is how it appears in call logs CMPLTE:CALLERIDNAME (+17XXXXXXX) so the number shows up here, but isn't passed through to apps or deskphones in the CID string only upon clicking into it

If you have any Activity Logs from before the change, compare what was being sent, to what is now being sent. Perhaps the number is no longer being sent in the same field.

I do not have have the old log but I noticed P-Charge-Info: tel:3XXXXXXX is now where the tel is located and P-Asserted-Identity: "NAME CALLER " <sip:+1XXXXXX;verstat=[email protected]>

So it looks like P-Charge-Info now has tel ID

Contact: <sip:+1XXXXXXX@IPADDRESS:5060>

Also has it

Do other folks have Flowroute and seeing that the caller ID only shows caller ID name, and no longer displays telephone number in the field either on app or deskphone? Am I crazy and its always been this way?

Hi @luckystrikes

Can you send us a screenshot of the Inbound parameters of your Flowroute trunk? The callers number should be read from the From:UserPart field. Looking at a test call I just did the number is also included there. If you have something different it will not work.

I'm also having this issue, Flowroute advise to contact 3CX support to resolve the issue.

See attached --

Hi @luckystrikes

Your configuration is correct so that should work. Can you remove the prepend option as a test and see if you can see the callers ID correctly?
Also looking at an Invite message from Flowoute is the callers number included in the From header?

I'm also having this issue, Flowroute advise to contact 3CX support to resolve the issue.
Are your inbound parameters correct as above or do you have something different? Make an inbound call to the PBX and check the Activity log for the Invite from Flowtoure. See if the callers number is included in the From header or if it's not then in which other fields is included.
You will need to enable Verbose logging for this.

I matched the screenshot and it seems to work however I still get a [V] before caller ID
The [V] is added by Flowroute when the caller is verified. That is normal and it is how it is sent to the PBX by Flowroute.

@YiannisH_3CX let me know if I should start a new thead. I did not mean to hijack it. @rjamesm2884 The [v] is normal, it is not what I'm talking about.

Removed the prepend it call showed up just the caller ID name (CUSTOMER NAME), doesn't scroll at all and does not scroll the number. However on missed call it does show DID and inside the app of course you see the DID.

Same appears on deskphones, cname only , no scrolling, phone number does not show unless you look into call details.

I can open ticket if you'd like, unless this is the normal method and I am just crazy...

edit forgot the invite

edit #2 - saw you say "Looking at a test call I just did the number is also included there."

Number is included right away as the call comes in? Did you use flowroute? I am building v18 pbx soon to test anyway, I will try that and update here as well

edit 3: Same result on new v18 PBX. Can see name , no number. When app is open, number is there.
