Maximum number of webcams and audio streams

Hello,

what is the maximum number of users with activated webcams and users with activated microphones in an on-premise 3CX webmeeting (Enterprise license)?

I couldn't find this information in the FAQs, and I found contradictory information in the forum:
Maximum 16 webcams (or 25?)
Maximum 16 audio streams (or 32? or 50?)

Is it correct that a maximum of 16 participants can activate their webcam and microphone at the same time, and the remaining 234 participants can only listen and use the chat?

@PBX128, the limitations apply per each web meeting:
  • 16 video
  • 50 audio
Example:
The total number of web meeting participants with 3CX ENT subscriptions is 250

Meeting A: 16 video+40 audio = 56
Meeting B: 16 video + 28 audio = 44
Meeting C: 16 video + 50 audio + 84 participants can only watch, listen in and use the chat.

Hi @PBX128 , the good news is that with on-premise MCU you can customize this parameter. Be aware that increasing the number of concurrent videos might affect performance on some PCs especially if they're not powerful enough. Also CPU usage on MCU server will increase, so keep an eye on it to avoid issues.

You can edit /opt/3cxwm/mcu/config.json and change

"max_video_num": 16,
"max_audio_num": 16,

to increase both concurrent videos and concurrent audio. Remember to restart the service after the change with

systemctl restart 3CXWMMcu

You found mixed information on the forum because we adjusted these settings during these years.

Are there known limits for normal office notebooks/computers (i3, 8-16 GB RAM)?
Something like: 20 webcams almost always worked, but from 32 webcams at the latest it was unstable

MCU-CPU shouldn't be a problem. In 3CX admin area CPU is always shown as 1 or 2 %.
 
Hi @PBX128 , the best way to verify is to check CPU usage on your reference PC. Be sure not to exceed 80% CPU to allow usage peaks. There are many parameters that can affect the result (CPU model and generation, accelerated GPU availability, webcam quality, screen resolution, software installed, network quality) so it's difficult to estimate, also because there's a great variety of hardware around. You can tell which are the "weak" PCs because they will be the ones with the yellow triangle, because when CPU is too high, Chrome WebRTC engine will start to lose data. The effect is similar to bad network conditions.
We decided to stay on the safe side by setting max videos to 16, but if your environment has modern hardware, you can probably try to configure 20-25.
