Hello everyone,

I have a new client with their 3CX installed on an unlicensed version of Windows 10 as a VM and am looking to fix this licensing issue by moving 3CX to a new Windows Server 2022 VM which they have a license for.
How do I go about this with as little downtime as possible? I'd prepare the new VM as much as possible and then restore the "old" 3CX to the Server VM. For that I would have to already have 3CX installed on the new VM to be able to restore from a backup, right? After the 3CX is moved to the new VM, I'd turn off the old VM and change the new internal IP adress to the IP adress of the old VM. That should theoretically cover everything, right? Anything else I'd have to look out for?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Running both servers at the same time is not something that is recommended.
What is the size of your backup?

@EWS Be aware the Windows version will require an enterprise license going forward, once Windows v20 is released. An alternative is a Debian VM, and you can restore during the install. Use the same ports during install.

I would shut down the old system before actually restoring the backup on the new system. The backup is about 700 MB in size

Thank you for that information, that new license requirement went past me completely. Where did you get that info?

This is small backup and if the resources are enough this will not take long. I would suggest to shut down the old server and proceed.

internal IT doesn't want to mess with linux ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You dont need to do anything on linux. Everything is configured over the webclient.
