'Mobile' Desk Phone

Hi Everyone,

We have a potential client who has the specific requirement to be able to physically move their desk phones around with them to different locations, their office, their home, their customer sites.

They want to be able to plug in the PSU and ethernet and make calls, they have had a demo of a Horizon system and it is possible with their desk phones, as I believe it also is with Gradwell and Gamma systems.

They do not want to use softphone or webclient with headsets.

Direct SIP isn't an option as we may not have firewall access at all locations.

Can I pop an SBC in the cloud and use it's WAN IP in the provisioning options?

Any suggestions?

The 3CX SBC would have to be at the same location as the set, when the set is used outside the local LAN, assuming the 3CX install is at the office. The set could be set-up using STUN, but that may cause some issues, depending on your setup, if moved between work, and other locations.
the Raspberry Pi SBC is inexpensive enough to assign to the user. They could take it with them for use at home (it would have to be configured for that network, and tested), then simply left there, and the set moved between work and home.

@interactive9 you dont need to do port forwarding on the router where the phone is, i am sitting with a yealink on my desk at home with a basic sky router, no ports opened or forwarded, same with the rest of the IT staff, they all have their phones at home Virgin,BT and no ports open

Sometimes works - sometimes doesn't.

Every installation is different. In some cases, you might get away with an auto-provisioned set, that will work, in more than one location (work, and home). It will depend on the differences, in the network configurations, at the locations.
