Testing new webmeeting app for IOS, landscape working nice... but only landscape.
Couple of questions for 3CX:
Can it work both ways?
Is the self video at some point going to be smaller?
Are we are going to be able to schedule a meetings from either of the IOS apps(voice and meeting)

Hello @Juan Marriott

yes, going forward the app will only support landscape orientation.

The reasons behind are that general all content the user will consume will come in an 16:9 aspect ratio.
From sharing a screen of a PC (monitors are general 16:9 nowadays) to streams of other users webcams (which generally use a 4:3 or 16:9 resolution).

To provide a consistent experience in 3CX Meeting across all attendee (and their devices) landscape will be used on mobile devices.

When is it scheduled to be released in the app store

it is pending on Apples Review Team now, once we get the green light we will release it directly as an initial update chain for our iOS users.

Is the chat margins fixed? I didn't see an update for that.

Hi Stefan,

I wanted to provide some feedback on this. I have an office that is in the middle of seeking out a webmeeting software and seeing as they already have 3CX set up in their office this is a no-brainer, especially with all the negatives of the alternatives (like Zoom).

I've got part of the office using 3CX Webmeeting so I've been receiving user feedback and observing their behavior in setting up meetings and using this with their clients. One of the biggest drawbacks so far is the iOS app, I'll list the issues below:
  • The webmeeting app does not appear to be optimized for iPhone X (the smaller version) as some of the screen options seem to be cut off and difficult to access.
  • I'm not sure if this has to do with the above, however, the chat is also not visible or selectable from an iPhone X.
  • The camera was not adjusting to the user's screen orientation so one particular user kept turning the phone to try and fix this which did not fix the issue, I wanted to see if it was an issue so I did a hard close and restarted the app to no avail. I proceeded to uninstall and reinstall the app and this still did not fix his camera orientation issue.
  • I understand your decision on the landscape mode, however, I'd ask to take into consideration allowing users to choose their orientation as I've visually observed user confusion and frustration on not being able to switch to portrait mode which is pretty standard amongst the popular webmeeting apps, especially now that these webmeeting apps are becoming commonplace it's difficult to try and mold or change a users' behavior/expectation once they've become accustomed to a certain way of using a certain type of app.
I would really like to convert this office on using 3CX Webmeeting however many of their clients (they're a B2C business) are iPhone users and not tech-savvy and while most of the set up is user friendly (which I really appreciate!) the points I listed above are enough of a hurdle to prevent this office and other clients I'm interested in setting on Webmeeting from committing.

I would ask this to be re-considered. Users, especially younger ones, want to use Portrait.

the difference is that we do not try to replicate facetime or whats up. Our intent is a business application with shared content/screens and multiple users collaboration over this. The orientation will, therefore, remain for the time being.

Hi Stefan, thanks for the reply. While I understand your goal and the target audience 3CX is catering to I want to be clear and state that my feedback is coming from commercial/business users. I'm assuming 3CX's target market is the same or similar to web conferencing apps like Zoom, Google Meet, Skype for Business, WebEx, etc. These are the services that I'm looking to replace for my clients with 3CX WebMeeting and the iOS/Android apps of these services all allow portrait & landscape screen orientation (see the attached screenshots) depending on the end-user preference.

If the goal is strictly to share content & screens why even include the video portion? I don't think that's what you were implying but I say this to point out that the video portion is a key feature and the smartphone screen orientation can be a hindrance to some users which is why I suggested giving the user the option to choose the orientation. I know as simple as it sounds it was a point of contention for the users I had testing the iOS app.
