HI,

I am having some difficulty understanding/configuring the Outbound Caller ID for my PBX with SIP trunk provider Voip.ms. I have read the support documentation and see the suggestions, but most of the questions on the forums are how to get a number to show up. I wanted to see if someone could help me configure the outbound caller ID to show just my business name and no number when I call someone (Anyone/where)?

Do you currently have the name working?

You'd have to talk to your provider about the number. Many will allow you to block it, but sending no number may not be possible. They may require a number in a valid format.

Even when you block a number, when using a prefix, the number is still sent. All you do is instruct the terminating switch to send the blocked number message to the called party.

Many (most) toll free numbers will not work if a valid number is not sent, not to mention that many people will not answer a call not showing a number.

Well, I don't want to "Block" the number per se just show the business name in place of the number and if the person can't view a "Name" then just show the number is fine.....? We don't want to block it.

The name won't be in place of the number, as they are two different fields. Many new spoofing rules/regulations require that you send a number in a valid format. Your provider can explain their particular requirements. Some will honour a name that you send, while others require that the name be sent by them.

Ok, so how can we set it up to at least request the name be shown and if it can't be the number? If I understood correctly VOIP.ms supports custom caller ID.

Right, but which setting?? The first one mentioned by support or the second one further down the page? We don't care about internal calls with ext to ext just making outbound calls.

Try each one, and see what the results are.
