Personal Contacts

We have a user who has hundreds of personal contacts stored. She is changing extensions, and would like to be able to move those contacts from the old extension to the new one. I have not found any way of exporting them, not does my search of these forums give me any idea other than re-entering them in the new extension, but I thought I would ask to verify. Phone system is on v16

Hi @Mark2112,

I'm afraid that there is no way to export the personal contacts of your user currently. There is a way to do this but it's not straightforward, you'd need to take a backup - within the backup you'll find a XML file. Within the XML file, you can search the string looking for <Number>EXT NUMBER</Number>. You should see all of their personal contacts labeled <PhoneBookEntries>. Great now you can see the data.

I'd log in to the management console now and export your global contacts to see the format it expects when you import.

Now you'll need to manipulate the string you copied out of the backup XML file with the contacts, into a format that you see in the exported global contacts.

Once done you can attempt to import it on the new extension.
