Polycom Soundstation IP 5000

Hi,

I have some Polycom Soundstation IP 5000 devices that I would like to connect to my new 3CX phone system.

My phone system is remote.

The following guide says the phone cannot be used remotely.

What isn't clear, is can the phone be used with an SBC deployed locally?

On a separate note - what is it that prevents the phone from being used remotely?

Hi Leon,

Most things are possible with 3CX it is a question of whether you want to stay within the grounds of support or not.

If you don't and want to use the SBC you will need to set these up manually and point the soundpoints registrar as the SBC itself and not 3CX. This will then registrar down the tunnel.

The other option I know is setting up a VPN to your platform and provisioning via DHCP option 66.

Creating a VPN isn't an option at the moment unfortunately.

I'm still not clear about whether using the SBC is a supported option or not?

Its not "supported" but should still work if you point it manually at the SBC.

Not "supported" means that if you called 3CX on this setup they would not offer advice to you.

Okay thanks. Is deploying an SBC the way to go, rather than trying to register the phone directly to the remote PBX?

If you can't go VPN it is. There is an option of STUN if the phone were to support it however the Polycoms don't support STUN with 3CX as they are "Legacy" devices so it would be a real pain to setup and not secure.

SBC would be your best option, get a Raspberry Pi Kit online they are pretty well priced and support 20 extensions per Pi: https://www.3cx.com/docs/3cx-tunnel-session-border-controller/

I stood up a Debian VM and installed the SBC software.

Polycom phone is now registered and working - thanks for the advice.
