I'm trying to implement the "Dial by Name" feature in 3cx that demands all users have a 'self identify' message recorded, as well as a 'personalized vm greet message'
This is for a 3cx instance with about 25 active extensions / users
The 'fun' is that nobody (except maybe 2 people, in sales team) have recorded the ID or Greet message.
My hope was just to 'get it done' as follows
- use an online voice reader
- standard script for (JOHN DOE) for audio.
- use audio tool, clip and make one small audio file that says "JOHN DOE"
- second audio file which says "Hi, you reached mailbox for JOHN DOE, can't take call, please leave message etc".
- then I login one-at-a-time to each user web-client interface in an anon.browser.window
- drill into their settings, upload the messages/audio files, bingo we are done
except.
It seems I cannot do this via web client, I can do the "VM Greet" message but not the "Self Identify" message
So, I wonder, can anyone comment if there is some workaround?
- I think? in theory I can login web client as (JOHN DOE) then dial into the VM Admin, feed the PIN at prompt, then "play back audio" on my laptop when prompted, so that my laptop will pass the audio stream saying "JOHN DOE" to 3cx. And, wow, I have it done. OR I can just use my own voice, say "John Doe" and accept that my voice will be the one used for self-ID-message for the company.
- is there not some other way to do this? Super frustrating.
browbeating the users to record their own self-ID message appears to be a lost cause.
company management want the phone system to work. Don't understand why it is so hard for me to get 'dial by name' working smoothly. Sigh. So much drama.
any help / pointers are appreciated.

( I did see there is a 3rd party add-on related to the 'auto generation of self-ID-messages' but I think it requires 3cx, non-free, windows / IIS, etc, so that is not so much helpful here. I've got a free license 3cx linux install config).
