Recommended Server Specification

Hi all,
I am going to be using 3CX for our VOIP. What specification do you recommend for a server?

For the operating system do you recommend as well I can use one of the following:
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
Microsoft Windows Server 2000
Microsoft Windows Advanced Server 2000
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard R2
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition R2
Microsoft Windows Vista Business Edition

But I don't think it matters to much about the operating system, I would like to used Microsoft Windows Server R2. More so i would like to know what specification the server is to be.

· Minimum 1 GHZ and 256 megabyte of ram
· SIP based software or hardware phones
· To connect PSTN lines, a SIP based VOIP Gateway or a SIP based VOIP provider is
required.

Now, remember, the actual hardware specs are not anywhere as important as the network vs installation size, which is why I suggested the first link. I am running it on an old P3 766Mhz 300+MB RAM for my small business and have no complaints.

I have an old server here, P3 1GHz, 40 GB HDD, 512 MB Ram i will use that

Go for it. I have W2K Server as OS with a 60GB HD that has only 11GB used, and that includes six or so web sites since I keep this machine as a backup web server also. You will do much better.

Windows 2000 is a good OS i hardly use it anymore

Its i waste i know but, im running 3cx along with my mail server on an old computer i have here :|
Athlon XP 2500Mobile+ (2.0Ghz)
1.5Gb ram
and about 221Gb hard drive splitted through 4 hard drives

Its a waste i know, but it would be more a waste if i didnt use it

I have an old P3 with 256MB RAM and small HD. I use only for 3CX.

I have my server running on vmware on my SBS2003 server. Runs great. 1.4 Xeon 3 Gb ram total. Vmware server is running Server 2003 R2, 512Mb ram. I have 1 other vm running server 2003, 512 with websites and mysql running.
