In the post below 3CX stated that the Windows Client is being slowly phased out.

For our remote workers we use the Windows Client on their local (home) laptop and either the Web Client or Desktop App on their remote (office) desktop to control the Windows Client. Once the Windows Client is phased out what will be the recommended way to handle remote workers? Will the Desktop App eventually be able to control another instance, or is a different solution planned? In the past we tested using audio over RDP but the results were poor.

Thanks,
Keith

Hi @KeithTX,

While the Windows Client has reached its end of development, it can still be used. I assume due to its popularity that there will be an announcement when the final cut off will happen - if it does.

We suggest moving over to the new Desktop App / Web Client / PWA App. The choice of which is yours, the Desktop App has a dialer with BLFs which is advantageous.

Will the Desktop App eventually be able to control another instance
Can you elaborate on what you mean by this? Another instance of what, in this case?

Currently the Desktop App & Web Client have the ability to control the Windows Client for making and receiving calls. Our people working from home use the Windows Client on their laptops as their "soft phone", and use Desktop App on their remote office computer (via RDP) to control the Windows Client. If the Desktop App had the ability to control another instance of of the Desktop App then the remote employees could use the Desktop App as their "soft phone" on their laptop and the Desktop App on their office computer to control that it would allow the same setup after the Windows Client is discontinued. Without this feature the only options would be to use audio over RDP which significantly reduces the audio quality, or continually minimize the RDP session to use the Desktop App. I hope I explained that well.

I believe you asked the same question again and was answered here:
