Renewing license with downgrade (v18)

Greeting to you all,

Currently we are on version 18.0.9.31 and want to renew license and we will downgrade it from 256sc to 128sc, the service provider is telling me that I have to be version 20 in order to renew a downgrade license, but if we will renew the same license SC we would not have to move to version 20.
is this correct or not please ?

Don't think you are at the right version, believe this should be 18.0.9.35.
However I just downgraded a 18.0.9.35 and renewed afterwoods, without any issues (besides i had to write to sales for the downgrade wish here: https://www.3cx.com/contact/ )

No its not correct, you can up and downgrade as you like... But anyway you need to update to v20 as soon as possible! Any new licence can only be activated on v20.

Thats correct, you also need to be at least on this version to refresh or activate any licence.

Could be possible... V18 is eol since a long time.

Okay so now
We have updated to the latest v18 from version 18.0.9.31 to 18.0.9.35 via updates screen on the 3cx management console, and now we need to upgrade to v20
will we be able to update to v20 through the update window or there is another way because right now it tells me that system is up to date.

Note: it’s an on-premise setup (windows version)

On windows you need to Backup an restore... Please be sure you checked the requierments...

Do I need to uninstall the 3cx from the server, then install the new v20 and then restore, or I simply can run the .exe and it will detect my current v18 installation, then choose upgrade, if that even a thing I really don't know

No, you have to uninstall and install than v20... If you are not sure how to handle this, please contact your partner to help you. There are some requirements before you can upgrade to v20.
