Hi everyone,

I just discovered this phenomenal software last week, but I've since run into a small problem. The only "system extensions" that will register are the two park extensions, the echo test and the fax extension. The voicemail/special menu extension and any IVR extensions will not register! Their statuses are perpetually "Not Registered."

When I have my VoIP trunk pointed to a digital receptionist, the call is terminated with a busy signal. If I point the trunk toward a user extension, the call goes through. I can also make calls out, so I don't think this is an inbound/outbound rule or VoIP provider issue.

I've searched these forums and tried a lot of different approaches to solve the issue. I've rebooted the services as well as the machine, turned off the Windows Firewall, opened many ports on the network router, looked for application errors, etc..

Here are the details of the installation: Windows XP SP3, 3CX Phone System version 9.0.14795.0 -- with all of the latest updates, Abyss server. My VoIP provider is Skype (Skype Connect, formerly Skype for SIP). I'm using 3CX Phone for each of the extensions.

Here's a sample from the server activity log (on verbose) of the system starting and attempting to direct an incoming call to a digital receptionist at extension 800:

Re: System Extensions Won't Register

Hi, Welcome to the Forum

I assume you are using the FREE Edition of the 3CX Software? If so then the digital receptionist is not included in this version without having a commercial licence.

for a full list of features which are included in the FREE Edition, please visit http://www.3cx.com/phone-system/edition-comparison.html

If you register at http://www.3cx.com/phone-system/download-phone-system.html you will be sent a demo licence to try out the commercial features.

If you are running 3CX as part of a business, then i would recommend that you do upgrade to the full version, which we can provide you the licences needed, please contact us for prices etc.

Could you goto the 3CX Phone System Console and select Services Status, and make sure all is running?

I am indeed using the free version, and I have seen the product comparison and feature lists before... but I'm a little confused. Looking at the link you provided, there's a dot in the "FREE Edition" column for "auto attendant/digital receptionist." So, this feature isn't included in the free version?

I really appreciate the clarification.

All services are "started." I can also see the services running as processes in the Task Manager.

Thanks for your help!

Re: System Extensions Won't Register

I have a brief follow up... I activated the system using the demo license key. All of the other system extensions are now registered, except for the single IVR extension and the voice mail/"SpecialMenu" extension. Those two are still "Not Registered."

I really like this product so far, and I'm not averse to buying the full version... but like any consumer, I want to make sure it will work well for my purposes first.

Re: Certain System Extensions Won't Register

Hi Paul

Could you please if not already now do a full system restart, and report back if still unregistered and provide us with the 3CX logs?

Re: Certain System Extensions Won't Register

Hi David,

I did a full system restart and these two extensions are still unregistered. I've read the whole 3CX Phone System manual and I've been through every imaginable setting, but I still can't figure out what's causing this problem. I'm considering reinstalling the whole program, but I don't know how much good that will do.

Here's a log of the system starting:

Re: Certain System Extensions Won't Register

Hi Paul

first of all, i see you are using a stun server from Skype, this is giving you some errors, could you change this back to the defaults of stun.3cx.com port 3478 and restart all 3cx services and let me know how it goes.

Re: Certain System Extensions Won't Register

Hi Dave,

Thank you for all of your help so far.

I'm not sure why I thought changing the STUN sever would fix anything. I changed it back to stun.3cx.com and restarted all of the services. The IVR and SpecialMenu extensions still won't register. Here's the resulting log.

Re: Certain System Extensions Won't Register

Hi Paul
I can’t see much in terms why the two services are not starting.
There is a couple of things that can be done to find out what’s causing this.

1. Go to the 3CX Console and select Settings from the tree menu, select Advanced Settings
At the bottom, you should see a section labelled Logging Level. Please set this to Verbose. Restart 3CX wait 5 minutes and then post the full logs on here.

2. Go To Control Panel, Administrative Tools and select Event Viewer, check to see if there are any errors related to 3CX here and report back with any info you find that’s related.

Re: Certain System Extensions Won't Register

Hi Dave,

The logging level had already been set to 'verbose.' Each of the logs I posted above were logged at that level.

There aren't any errors from 3CX in the Event Viewer other than one relating to the STUN server issue.

Have you ever encountered a problem this elusive before? It seems quite bizarre to me...

Thanks!

Re: Certain System Extensions Won't Register

Hi Paul, I can't say i have come across this before.

This could be a problem with the Abyss web server. it's very hard to provide any more support then what i have done already without having remote access.

You could try reinstalling the 3CX system, what i can say, is that once 3CX is all installed and running as it should, its a very good bit of kit. the features it offers are really good and i'm sure you will be happy with it.

Re: Certain System Extensions Won't Register

Hi Dave,

Thanks so much for your advice.

For what it's worth, I completely reinstalled the 3CX Phone System. I used the installation checker utility to ensure everything was properly removed, downloaded a new copy of the installer, restarted the system, and re-installed the program. After reconfiguring everything, I still have the same problem... the IVR and SpecialMenu type system extensions remain "not registered." I even held off on upgrading to SP4, thinking perhaps the problem was a bug with the latest updates.

Besides this not-so-minor problem, I'm still quite impressed with the software and I'd really like to see it work. If anyone else has any suggestions, I'm all ears!

Re: Certain System Extensions Won't Register

Hi, i'd suggest you delete all Digital Receptionist and Queues that you've created, go to Settings > General > Music on Hold and make sure there's a file named onhold.wav set as your music on hold.

Once you've done the above, restart the 3CX Digital Receptionist service.
Also go to start > run > services.msc and check whether the Abyss webserver service is running.

Re: Certain System Extensions Won't Register

Hi Leonidas,

Thank you for your suggestion. I did try it, but by that time Michael Borg already offered to try to help resolve the situation. After a couple of remote desktop sessions and some absolutely amazing troubleshooting efforts on his end, the problem is fixed (for now)! Apparently, and I'm just relaying this information, a couple of oddball codecs I had were crashing some 3CX services.

The issue was resolved by removing two MP3 files that were included with the default 3CX promptset. Michael advised me to eventually install 3CX Phone System on a server/computer with a fresh install of Windows and no extraneous codecs. He also informed me that future versions of 3CX Phone System will use WAV files instead of MP3 files.

I want to say that I'm thoroughly impressed with 3CX! For the part of the forum with no official support, you guys certainly go above and beyond what is expected of you. I'll be in the position to buy a commercial copy sometime soon and I have no reservations whatsoever about making that leap. Thanks for everything!
