I would like to know if it's possible to have one DID duplicated across two SIP trunks. Essentially, for redundancy purposes, the provider will be setting up a failover configuration which will require that DID to be usable on two trunks.

Hi there.
What provider are you using there?
You should not have this, as the same number can not be on two different providers at the same time.

in 3CX? Sure, you can add multiple trunks and they can have the same number in their configuration.
This is how we do trunk migrations - export all DIDs and reimport - 3CX just has "2" of everything - 1 tied to each trunk.

On the carrier side though, no, a number lives in 1 place at a time.

It's a local provider in Puerto Rico, not a Cloud provider. This means that the trunks are delivered physically to 2 of our Data Centers. What we would like to do with 3CX is to have, for example, Sip trunk Data Center #1 and Sip trunk Data Center #2 connected to the 3CX PBX. If Data Center #1 goes down, the provider is capable of performing failover and delivering them through our Sip trunk Data Center #2. In our setup, we utilize SBC Audiocodes in the Data Centers to manage the traffic flow efficiently. In the past, the DID numbers resided in the SBC, and it was not an issue as it functioned perfectly using the Audiocodes. However, upon transferring the DID numbers to reside in the PBX, we encountered an obstacle. We found that we cannot create the same DID on two different Sip trunks. This limitation has prompted us to explore alternative configurations and solutions to ensure seamless handling of incoming calls and efficient utilization of our telecommunication resources.

We are exploring a solution that allows us to force 3CX to accept the same DID on two different trunks. Is there any specific configuration or special feature within the platform that enables us to achieve this?

This should work fine. What specific error did you get?

It's really weird... when I add the DID to the second trunk, it gets rejected. But when I remove it, the call goes through. I have 2 inbound rules.

What version of 3CX?

We have this actively in play with a client who has 2 PRIs and numbers could come in over either one (Spectrum is weird)
